So Sky News and the ITN News Channel plunge television news to a new low.
It should only be a matter of time before Sky put a Heath Countdown Clock on screen.

I don't think even SKY¦News would dare risk putting another pointless clock on screen (a la Michael Jackson) but I dont see why ITV News are being included for plunging to new lows?

"nearing the end of his life"

What an utterly meaningless phrase for PA to use in the first place.

Heve they never noticed that we're all doing that from the moment we're born?

In fairness to PA, that is the phrase used by Sir Edward's spokesman.

There's no way that any family (or agent in the field of showbusiness) would release such a statement if it wasn't 100% certain that it was about to happen (or indeed it had already happened, but they were with-holding the news)..... It's not disrespectful for a news organisation to report it, if those closest to the person concerned didn't want it reported thenthey wouldn't have released the statement in the first place

It is odd, before this year, the last Prime Minister to die was in 1995 when Harold Wilson died. Two this year - just like waiting for a bus.

On another note - does anyone remember the post a few years ago about Former Prime Ministers funerals being televised - it was a huge thread; the argument being that all former PM's when they die should have a state funeral.

Anyways, a sad day - I liked old Ted.

Did anyone else hear Ted Heath being interviewed on News 24 soon after the death of Jim Callaghan was announced? The poor chap didn't sound entirely with it, and it was painful to listen to him. Fortunately the presenter wrapped up the conversation fairly swiftly.

Well it is highly likely to be in fairness. The only other living ex-MP is John Major, and he seems to be still fit and well, whereas poor old Maggie is starting to look a bit frail.

Sky News's loop of Heath footage earlier amusingly featured Harold Wilson presenting an award to The Beatles, for some unknown reason
