Sky News has just quoted PA saying that former Prime Minister, Sir Edward Heath, is "nearing the end of his life".

So Sky News and the ITN News Channel plunge television news to a new low.
It should only be a matter of time before Sky put a Heath Countdown Clock on screen.

Have editors not wondered...
What happens if he lives another week?
Will we have political correspondents popping up everyday with the "not dead yet" line?

And what's "nearing the end of his life...?" Sky haven't quoted this line from PA: "the ex-Tory leader was well enough to celebrate his 89th birthday last week with a party".

I think it's so utterly tasteless in the scramble for news that we're now running stories that "Joe Bloggs could die..."

Not very nice.

What an utterly meaningless phrase for PA to use in the first place.

Have they never noticed that we're all doing that from the moment we're born?

In fairness to PA, that is the phrase used by Sir Edward's spokesman.

I've always liked Ted Heath, theres something about him I warm to. In just four years he changed the country by entering the Common Market, and that is how he will be best remembered.

There was a few docs made about him a few years ago, there are some funny scenes when he says what he thinks about Thatcher Laughing

No. Churchill was given a state funeral because of what he did during the war. The only big thing that Heath did was enter the UK into the Common Market.

Edit - Just realised who asked this. Yet another posting going on about death Rolling Eyes . Have you considered being a funeral Director when you finish school? Youre obsessed!

No - James Callaghan, who died earlier this year, did not have a state funeral, and I doubt that Edward Heath will either.
