I hope Emma crops up elsewhere in the future - always thought she was great.

Many thanks for posting. Always seems a quiet farewell on 5news. After 5 years at the helm you would expect abit more of an effort. I hope a relaunch is on the cards when Sian joins that set is truly awful.

The news is the news - people don't expect to see minutes of it wasted on goodbyes to presenters, and it's something which is quite difficult to do with solo hosted shows anyway without it being one big ego exercise.

Keep your eyes peeled for Dani Sinha from South Today (and occasionally BBC World) in the next few weeks too. She's also left the BBC last week and will be joining 5 News.

That's good news for 5 - I always rated her highly on South Today and her occasional WN appearances. She always comes across as someone who is ambitious and is going places.

I'd like to see a 5 News show in prime time again. I remember when 5 launched in April 97 with Kirsty perched on the desk and walking round the newsroom talking to correspondants & when the had 5 news early they used to be innovative programmes. Now with a news at 5 pm & at 6.30 5 news will never get any traction with the chattering classes;

so

1/ keep the main show at 5

2/ move the 6.30 show to 8 or 8.30 or if that's not commercially viable to 11 or 11.30 there isn't really any really late night news on in the uk all ouside the news channels. 5 news late could show more adult oriented tabloidy news or even be a rival to the BBC & ITV

How would the panel view a late night news from 5?

Not really an appetite for it here in the UK, closest we have is political panel shows such as Scotland Tonight or The Agenda or perhaps, to a lesser extent, Sky Papers when Pierce and Maguire are on.

It would be nice if they relauched with something innovative and different. Ch5 News Citytv launch format was probably their best. IMO its been down hill ever since and has kinda floundered.

I hope 5 news get a overall, its just a carbon copy of ITV news, mainly because of ITN.

Could you elaborate?

Going through my 5 News at 5 recording, Tessa Chapman covered while the two way with Matt Barbet had him in the newsroom, rather than in the studio.
