I take it Sian joining 5 News will coincide with a new look News, and the new look Channel 5?

I'm surprised she is moving really, I wouldn't say Channel 5 News is a well regarded or watched program. I suspect they are planning quite a big revamp that has tempted her, hopefully it will be good and won't go the way of the Kaplinsky era.

Anyone know, if Emma will be returning?

It doesn't sound like it.

As for BBC Breakfast, Radio gets more viewers at that time of the day.

How many times have Five News revamped with a new presenter? Seems to happen constantly.

If like the Kaplinsky era it could be a back door way to getting a monthly freelance gig when everyone else is busy on ITV News!

But do they turn it on?

Sian clearly is a talented journalist and a skilled interviewer, she would be an asset to any news programme. That said, I am surprised by this move. I always thought Nina Hossain would make a good lead anchor, she makes virtually no appearances on ITV News at 6:30 or News at Ten these days, (I'm aware shes LT anchor but it hasn't stopped her or Katie Derham making appearances at 6:30 in previous years), so I would of been tempted to try and go for her, would seem more of a natural fit for 5 News.

9 new 'looks' in 18 years. They've only had 4 'main' presenters according to Wikipedia Kirst, Catherwood, Kaplinks and Suchet. Though I'm sure Ems and Barbie (post emergency Daybreak v2) were publicised as 'signings' too but I may have been hallucinating.

With Kirsty presenting two stints on 5 News.

Maybe they're hoping that a well regarded newsreader will help to change that perception of the programme. It'll probably afford Sian much more control and input too. Big fish, small pond. But will the ripples of change lead to waves of new viewers flooding to Five?

Keep your eyes peeled for Dani Sinha from South Today (and occasionally BBC World) in the next few weeks too. She's also left the BBC last week and will be joining 5 News.
