I'm not sure David Lowe revolutionised anything other than BBC News music, certainly in the UK anyway. Everything ITV, C4, C5 and Sky did from that point was very much an evolution of what they already had.

As you say News 24 had already moved away from the orchestral themes, and there was the legendary transmitter intro from the late 80s/early 90s for the Nine o'clock News long before that.

I agree about Channel 5 - before they bought Neighbours I never used to watch it. Now, though, it's probably my most watched channel.

Just a shame that Heroes Reborn is going on 5USA!

What's happened to 5 news tonight? I've not been watching this week and Sian said at the end of the program "matt is back tomorrow"

Some interesting graphics for this years budget. The numbers of 2016 taking on the style of the '5' logo.

Oh I do hope they do something with 5 News sometime soon. It feels a bit of an irrelevance these days.

Would have been good to see them push the hourly updates again in primetime at least with 60 Seconds ending.

Agree though it is a shadow of it's former self, but I suspect the budget is as well.

Also on the cards once the broadcaster moves to Viacom’s offices in Camden in September is a rebrand of Channel 5 News - now fronted by Sian Williams, who has brought in more upmarket viewers.

Just hope they abandon the virtual look. I'm sure they could come up with a better real set.

I'm surprised 5 News has brought in any new viewers, the editorial is still incredibly bland with a cheap looking VR set.

At least we know the administrative side of C5 is moving from N&S to Camden in September.
