You can always trust Fox News for a "unique" angle. Apparently the reason so many people were killed, according to a pundit they were talking to, was that unlike members of the public in Virginia, who can legally carry concealed weapons for their own protection, Virginia Tech had a strict no guns rule on campus.
The FNC pundit was suggesting that people should be allowed to carry handguns at all times for their own protection - so they can shoot the other guys with guns.
No mention that the current US administration has let a law banning the sale of automatic weapons lapse - presumably under pressure from the NRA etc...

It really is ridiculous isn't it.
If all these school shooting were carried out by the like of Al-Qaeda they'd be declaring war left right and centre - but as it's generally the WASPs that kill each other, nothing is done.

I think Jon Stewart on the Daily Show has the best explanation (YouTube).

WORLD actually broke the story during Nisha Pillai's shift. To be honest, her handling of the news when it initially broke was - for me - the only time of the evening when BBC World seemed to convey the seriousness of the situation. Even although, at that moment in time, details were scarce.
Later bulletins (between normal programming) kind of left the impression that the story was way down World's agenda. Disappointing.

I think "iReporter" is another term for member of the public who has sent in material - a form of citizen journalism or user generated content, kind of the equivalent of the BBC asking people to e-mail or MMS photos etc.
So he wasn't an I-reporter before he took the pictures then. They made him sound like someone they' already had on their books who just happened to be there

Indeed. It sort of flies in the face of their slogan doesn't it? "Putting News First"...yeah, right.

Some of the anchors chatter was quiet inane as they tried to fill in time with very little info. Particularly bad on Sky News & BBC News 24. Wolf Blitzer on CNN probably made the best job of it.
