"Faux News Channel"? 😒

Anyway, some NBC stations pulled away rolling coverage to the Christmas Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center (NBC is based at 30 Rockefeller Center) TV special after anchor Lester Holt said that he'll be back on "some stations". This led to people on Twitter comparing the move to the TV special to the infamous Heidi Game incident where NBC cut away from the 1968 Super Bowl to air the movie "Heidi" just as Oakland was scoring a touchdown.

And this is news how?

Wow....

From the coverage Ive been watching the Major news channels usually dont have or are the slowest to get the best information. The local stations have always been the best sources. For a variety of reason, one of the main reasons is the networks dont know the area or the have local sources for information. Local stations have larger local resource pool to draw from. Also a news channel typically early on, will use a single network correspondent on a scene thats much too large for one person to cover and accurately gather new information. The local station can marshall their entire reporting team to fan out and cover multiple beats and reach out to multiple sources (ie hospitals, police stations, city hall, government buildings). If you have a Roku/AppleTV/Chromecast you can get NEWSON channel and pull up KABC. On Faux News Channel, Shepherd Smith just ripped the local police officials a "new one" over the lack of information after 2 hours since this incident has occurred. Usual tabloid guff. Not really a Faux News fan anyway. [changes channel]. The BBC News...kinda blah coverage, bumbling, repetitive. Usual filler topic points covered whilst an incident is still occurring..."thank you very much indeed" Rolling Eyes . AJAM and NBC News and CBS News providing the best coverage IMO. Smooth calm and measured informative. Shephard Smith still whinging about the media being iced out. Rolling Eyes Scott Pelly is smooth and calming and not bumbling whilst proving relevant information. Likely coverage on CBSN if you care to watch.

Plus the networks are relying on the local stations: KNBC 4, KABC 7, KTTV 11, KTLA 5 & KCBS 2 (KVEA 51 & KWEX 34 in Spanish) and simulcasting their coverage.

Yeah, NBC offered a one hour pre show from 7-8AM right before the actual national broadcast at 8PM. My local station decided to air the second half hour of Nightly News and apparently after that an updated third feed after at 7:30. (Nightly News has six feeds starting at 6:30,7:00,7:30,8:00,8:30,9:00 and 9:30 PM ET)

Edit : I thought I should clarify about the different feeds. In the past when Nightly News was extended 30 minutes at 7PM it doesn't mean that stations taking 7:00PM feed will be watching the second half hour. The second 7PM feed should start with the 6:30 show.

The BBC NC cant decide what to call the city where this is happening. The lowerthird says SAN BERNADINO and the LIVE flag says SAN BERNARDINO. And presenter is mispronouncing it. Its pronounced San Berna-deeno and spelled San Bernardino.

{giggle} She just quickly corrected herself when she said "LOS ANGEL-EEEZ" to the correct pronunciation "LOS ANGEL-IIS"

Are we talking Spanish pronunciations here or the corrupted American English pronunciations (hint - I know it's not the former)?

Here in Australia, the supposed 'incorrect' pronunciation is correct.

But surely the original pronunciation -- the one used by the people who lived there -- is the correct one? After all, I've heard Australians complain when foreigners incorrectly pronounce Canberra as "Can-BEAR-a."

Fair enough, I just hear that pronunciation of LA everywhere here.

Whenever I say either "Los Angeleez" or "Los Angeliss" it feels like I'm saying it wrong. I just say "L.A."

The same with CBS stations as well. CBS affiliates had the option of picking up the second half-hour and also CBSN was simulcasting the network until the second half was over and continued with the rolling coverage.

"Los Angel-iis" is the Spanish pronunciation and "Loss Angeliss" is the American English one.

Americans should learn to pronounce Birmingham and Nottingham correctly before they comment on how others pronounce Los Angeles Wink

True Americans dont always pronounce UK cities correctly. (Warwick-War-ICK. Edinburgh--Edin-BRUH. etc) Very Happy Id like a Brit to try and pronounce some Wisconsin city names....(ie Oconomowoc Shocked ) Having said that most Americans outside the upper Midwest cant pronounce them either. Laughing Something like correct pronunciation of placenames can get sticky if you arent from that place. I was amused the presenter on BBC NC quickly correct herself when she mispronounced LA because she knew she'd said it wrong, even though her colleague was using the correct version the entire time.
