Why, an additional death is hardly unexpected or a major development (although I realise it will feel like one to the relatives and friends of the individual in question.

I really wouldn't have thought it was appropriate to continue a light entertainment experiment either, but each to their own.

The news is now at 10:30 though, If there had been a major story just after the BBC moved their news from Nine to Ten should they have moved it back to Nine?

No presumably because Ten is seen as giving the news prominence but 10:30 is seen has shunting it out of the way?

I have always thought that moving your main network bulletin to 10:30pm or 11pm was 'shunting it out of the way'.

I appreciate that the BBC have the advantage of pointing people to their News Channel if events happen earlier in the evening, and also seem more willing to simulcast it on BBC One at short notice.

Those BBC viewers wishing to see their usual fare, would generally find it moved to BBC Two; but I don't think ITV have ever moved anything to ITV2 to make way for breaking news on their main channel.

I suppose it's just different priorities.

CITV was on September 11th.

ITV News London late bulletin was an OB from Westminster using the same vantage point as Tom Bradby did for the ITV News at 10.30.

Doesn't sound that surprising given they're both produced by ITN.

BBC World News / BBC News at 0500 is presented by Sally Bundock again.

I think Markymark was probably referring to the content of the pictures - their quality wasn't great, though that's likely because it was a digital zoom of part of a wider shot.

Yes, indeed, my use of 'horrendous' wasn't related to the technical quality. Thanks for the info Mr Geek

Ah. Gotcha.

Actually, there's a good example why you might want to use 4k or 8k cameras and acquisition for such things, to allow quality zooming for this sort of application

ITV isn't a news channel. I can see where you're coming from, but it's equally important not to let what these sick b___ds do affect our way of life, and normal planned routines.

This wasn't broadcasting related but in 2010 long before HD security cameras were norm there was a duck boat crash in Philadelphia. My father working for the US Coast Guard was one of the people displatched to the crash site and they were able to view the accident in above HD resolution thanks to money given for Homeland Security. The whole thing used a few cameras in the same location stitched together and he said you could see the people's expressions in the water after the duck boat was hit by and rolled underneath the barge.

Side Note: Don't ride duck boats they can be death traps as the canopy overtop can prevent a quick escape should one capsize. Additionally there isn't much training, if any, required to operate them.

A lot more considerations I would imagine for a commercial channel.

Airtime will have been sold around the main ITV schedule. So if you shift that schedule over to ITV2 what do you do with that commercial airtime ? Run scheduled ITV2 ads or run ITV ads to a smaller / different audience ?

That's why during breaking news, ITV usually just abandon their main schedule. As was the case on Wednesday. And that's as it should be as the PSB channel.

On a separate but related note, 3 have been injured in a shooting near a metro station in the northern French city of Lille.

It's not on the BBC website but it's on the Sky News website.
