Interesting to know. Perhaps that's why Capital, Heart etc chose to stick to normal programming rather than provide a joint speech service like they did after the 7th July 2005 bombings.

Remember that the 7/7 bombings were very different, virtually all of Londons public transport was shut down so information on that and all the other issues caused by the bombings. Big story that it is, the disruption to transport was limited

Also, Capital was a London station back then, it isn't now (though they can and do put out different programmes or links to London). It's owners, Global also own LBC, so there's little incentive to provide a speech service

Newsround was slightly extended this afternoon using three presenters, Jenny Lawrence presenting, Ayshah Tull was on the South Bank speaking to Heidi Alexander MP and analysis from Leah Boleto in the studio.

No they didn't. They sent a FLASH on Net Newsroom but that only appeared just before their 15:00 national satellite radio news bulletin.

I think Capital and Heart were under separate ownership in 2005 - GCap/Chrysalis. I recall Capital London and Xfm London sharing output on 7/7 under the banner "London Coming Together" though.

I would presume - I obviously don't know - that if another 7/7 happened then Global stations in London would join an LBC-led programme. The logistics of continuing to provide vital information to the capital while trying to make all links relevant for the rest of the country would strike me as a nightmare.

This would leave the option open for the stations in the rest of the country to continue as normal, with networked programming from Leicester Square/local programming depending on the hours and the severity of the situation. I would also assume a networked news service could be provided from London as well.

Capital and Xfm were in the infancy of being owned by GCap, which was a merger of the Capital and GWR portfolios. In July 2005, the Capital and GWR stations were still in effect still being run separately programming wise.

The London radio market also had more competitors, such as GMG, Emap and the then SMG owned Virgin Radio (now Absolute). Currently the majority of the London FM commercial stations are owned by either Bauer or Global, so there's room to provide different programming regardless of the event. Although I agree that stations would drop regular programming if the attack was on the scale of 7/7.

Even then would they actually get used much? There's really not that many incidents at Heathrow or Gatwick.

At one time there was an unattended studio at Heathrow, which I suspect might have been part of a facility to feed footage arriving by air back to base.

I don't think it was an 'electronically connected' one, it was back in the 70s/80s, and nothing more than a quiet room with some lighting and curtains to conduct filmed/pre-recorded interviews ?

Gone now I think, and anyway, assuming it was in the original main Term 1/2/3 block would be no good at all for Terminal 4 or 5 arriving or departing interviewees !

According to http://www.acdale.plus.com/DickMcCarthy/LondonConnect.html there were circuits into CAR at TV Centre in the 60s. This engineering monograph suggests that it was staffed by Ally Pally staff as required https://archive.org/stream/bbc-monographs-39/bbc_monograph_39#page/n35/mode/2up/search/airport

The One Show finished with a wide shot of the Trafalgar Square vigil with a solemn sign-off from Matt Baker.

London Live News was extended to 7pm (replacing London Film Club) to cover the Trafalgar Square vigil.

Another of the injured people has died, so I'm rather surprised that ITV hasn't shifted NaT to 10pm again.

Why, an additional death is hardly unexpected or a major development (although I realise it will feel like one to the relatives and friends of the individual in question.

I really wouldn't have thought it was appropriate to continue a light entertainment experiment either, but each to their own.
