That is why I'm surprised they haven't done something On Demand on cable considering the content is already available online, so the costs would be quite minimal compared to a 24-hour news channel.

In fact that could work very well if they tagged each report with appropriate meta data you could register your preferences for categories of news you're interested in.

So for example you might set preferences to say that you're particularly interested in finance but not so interested in sport, and you want regional stories from Yorkshire, and the system would produce a playlist of reports which fit your criteria and play that back to you, with a general round-up of the main points of the day's news agenda so you don't miss things which are important but don't quite fit your categories.
