I quite like the desk actually.
Let's be honest though - studio wise they've not really got anything to compete with from Sky Sports News. I think they only ever use wide shots during Soccer Saturday.
I think they should have distinguished themselves though by going full screen - it's an option I wish I had with SSN. Fox Sports News in Australia just has a simple transparent DOG and a ticker - that would surely be enough here too. The extra info is only really required during their Soccer Saturday equivalent.
Do Setanta have any kind of text or active service - they'd be better off launching a basic text service for all that info.

I do like the graphics, as I've said, and the set is, in my opinion much better than Sky Sports News' - which seems quite cramped. At least with Setanta Sports News we see a wide shot and it does look quite big. I think there's no real need for two tickers, they could easily form them into one. I think the bar on the left seems a bit washed out, and I think its a bit daft the way the dog flips over to a different colour. However, its not really bad, and they've been reading their fair share of emails/text's out, so at least it prooves someone's watching
. One thing I really don't like is the screen showing scores and showing what's on other Setanta channels, it looks very messy.
Alex Hyndman is on again, and the vidiprinter is in place of the silver straps, at the very top of the screen. Black, red, white, yellow! strange mix of colours. Newsroom still seems very busy though..very nice background

Any caps of that?
Are we assuming the newsroom background is real?

Alex Hyndman is easily one of the best on the channel. The others, and reporters especially, come across as being well, a bit amateurish.
I was expecting a lot less clutter and graphics after all that 'warm and chatty' stuff earlier. Can't say i really hate them its just that I don't see the point in them being there. A ticker/flipper would siffuce for 99% of their output.
I'm a bit confused about why they've gone to the trouble of actually dividing the day into little programs on the schedule when there is no indication of this on air. Pointless.
I also don't like the toth. Come on setanta constant airings of the same sting just ain't gonna cut the mustard for three years, lets have a proper toth with titles.
But my biggest gripe is the content...waaaaaay to repetitive. Ok, this is the nature of 24 hr news, but their is a limit to repetitiveness sometimes. There was nothing there.
The set is really nice though and would look really warm and inviting if they put it full screen.
EDIT: Can somebody explain the extent of ITNs involvement. e.g. do they do all the graphics, reports and everything like that or is that done at setanta's end and fed down to ITN.

I'd imagine ITN do most of the work. I would hazard a guess and say that the adverts might not be handled by ITN, the old News Channel adverts were handled by NTL and the way there is a straight cut to the studio with graphics suggests that ITN may not be dealing with those.

It seems that ITN does have an editorial role. This is taken from their website:
ITN has been appointed producer of Setanta Sports News, a vibrant and distinctive new 24-hour sports news channel jointly owned by Setanta Sports and Virgin Media. ITN is responsible for all daily editorial content working closely with Setanta Sports and Virgin Media to deliver lively and entertaining coverage and debate of the day’s biggest sporting stories.

I'm getting a headache watching this, there is simply too much moving about at once to be able to concentrate on any of it. The lower ticker is too slow, the higher ticker is too fast, the tables are replaced too quickly, the grey thing at the top is just in a stupid place.
I wish, for once, also, that a channel that is quite graphics heavy, wouldn't do ALL ITS TEXT IN CAPITALS, because sentence case is far easier to read.

I'd imagine it works in a similar way to the ITV News Channel - ITN produce everything, but they're producing it for Setanta in this case.
Basically it's like any other commercial channel dealing with independent producers - only in this case it's just one producer providing all the programming.
Anyhow, surprised it's as repetitive as it seems to have turned out to be considering a couple of days ago the channels boss were saying they didn't want to be as repetitive as Sky Sports News!
I'd imagine though these problems will be solved over time - the 20 minute cycle will probably become a 30 minute cycle before long, and ultimately use the whole hour.
I also think the flipper at the top will probably be the first thing to go - we'll probably seen the screen shifted up and it incorporated in the lower third.
What time does the channel finish for the night? Are they doing as Sky does and looping an hour (or possibly just 20 minutes) on repeat throughout the night?

I think they are recording the 12am hour, which will be played out from 1-6am.

Well 'All Sports Tonight' ends at 1:00AM. From 1-6am its just billed as "This is Setanta Sports News", I would assume the 12am bulletin is just being recorded and then repeated through the night.
Just watching the 10pm hour now, I'd say its not being as repetitive as it was earlier, most probably because of the football results coming in.
They had a guest a little earlier, and I notice this hour two males are hosting, its been male and female up until now.
As I've said, I actually like the graphics, I didn't mind the flipper being at the top, but now when I'm watching I notice I'm having to look further down the screen just to see the presenters. I've also already said the ticker's would look better morphed into just one ticker/flipper.
Agree with Brekkie Boy about the TOTH, some less tacky music and a better ident wouldn't go a miss, the music played during the headline's sounds very quiet, remind's me of when Sky News first launched the current music, they played it quiet, then they cranked it up a few notches!
Also, Alex Hyndman. She's been great tonight, seemed a bit nervous before, but I think it was just because her co-host interrupted her. She seemed to be very layed back with the other presenter.
So, it could be better, but not a bad start Setanta!
