I don't like the idea of this Scottish News at 10.30. I just feel that it wouldn't be as good some how.

Its good to see Border sticking up for themselves in that article. Everyone seems to think the region can just be dissolved and nobody would mind because it is a small region. However that is not the case, and it is one of the best perfroming ITV regions because of its unusual set up, the BBC regional news programmes largely ignore this area in their coverage.

I don't see why the current set up couldn't work, with Border Scotland taking on the new Scottish programme, and the rest of Border retaining the usual 10.30 programme. Thus being able to keep Lookaround and Border News. I'm sure that covering local news in the STV and Grampian regions would be more of a problem because news covered by them is what the 10.30 Scottish programme would probably largely cover. So they would still probably largely ignore the south of Scotland, and Border TV would still be meeting their obligations, and would be providing a good news service to the area.

And I think a separate Scottish Border News bulletin would be an idea for the 10.30 programme, currently on Border Scotland the 3pm bulletin is a complete separate bulletin for southern Scotland, plus the opt within Lookaround. I think completely separate Border News bulletins for each part of the region would work, with the whole region tuning in for Lookaround at six, and the whole region being covered by the one programme. Lets face it, there is no way Border could sustain a completely separate Lookaround programme for Scotland, but this way Border would still be providing a good service, without the region being split up, and being largely ignored by other potential regional providers -STV, Granada and Tyne Tees.

If North Tonight were to split Grampian would surely need to create another studio. The only studio they now have in Aberdeen is the current home of NT. If there is to be a Tayside (South) edition they would not use the current Dundee studio (which is a one man fixed camera outfit) or would they??

I can't see there being any room in Aberdeens current building for another studio to be created so it would be interesting to see what would happen.

Is there not a need also to cater for those in Inverness and the Northern Isles? They deserve a local opt out also!!

The Tayside opt out will only be for 6-7 minutes, so they would not need another studio. There is also a small studio (booth) in Aberdeen, similar to the one you describe in Dundee that may be used.

I think you are wrong - I don't think there is a small booth studio in Aberdeen - if there is I have never seen it being used?

Yeh it does appear there is a second studio bit I wonder if that is the voice booth studio they are referring to? I have been to Grampians studios many times and have never seen this studio...................can anyone confirm yes or no to this?

With the proposed Scottish News at 10.30 taking the ITN look, could this mean that Scotland Today and North Tonight (and any new regional bulletins) will be taking the generic regional look as well?

Well there is not an ITN look it is an ITV look! I would hope Scotlands 10.30 would take on its own look - the itv look is awful!!

Can't say I've been in Grampian's new studios (though I'd love a tour next time I'm in Aberdeen, can these be arranged?). And last time I was in the old Queen's cross studios I was 11 and appearing in Bits'n'Pieces (an early computer programme) hosted by Bobby Hain, I wonder what happened to him Very Happy

Anyway enough of my reminisances, this link the section titled Insert / Contribution Studios seems to suggest it's a single camera studio, maybe it doesn't always have a camera in it.
