They never should have allowed two different electoral systems for the same election. It was pretty clear some idiots would be confused.

I filled mine in fine.
Although I wouldn't call the thing entirely simple (even if the thought occurs that those who failed to comprehend it perhaps wouldn't have the best grasp of anything else connected with elections, like issues...) - it was two Xs on one paper (one on the left, one on the right) and a 1, 2, 3 on the second. Not to mention that if there was no-one you wanted to vote for in the constituency vote, only the list vote, the blank right-hand column counts as a spoil.
You ever done anything except a single X on a single paper for a vote?

I find that quite insulting actually, as I, as I'm sure many other "Jocks" on here are not muppets.
I filled mine out fine, as I'm sure many others did. However the now former govt simply thought it was a good idea to have council and parliament elections on the same day, when noone had been told about the changes or how to vote.
And as reboot said it wasn't really as simple as it's made out to be, whether one has strolled to the pub before going to vote or not.

I filled mine in okay as well - but it is not the easiest thing to follow. I think that those new to voting as well as the elderly may find this system a heck of a challenge. I for one think it is extremely concerning the magnetide of this fiasco.

This from the
Daily Telegraph
, shows the sample papers as distributed and widely publicised. The Scottish Parliament paper
clearly
advises electors to vote with a 'X' in both the regional member and constituency member columns. The Scottish Local Council paper also
clearly
shows the need to use 1,2,3,4 etc when voting.
There's no excuse for completing these papers incorrectly by ignoring instructions. I have no sympathy for anyone 'confused'.

Fair enough, I'd agree with that. But surely you would agree that it is not the best thing to do to have 2 elections on one night and having 3 different voting systems (FPTP, AMS nad STV) on 2 forms with next to no advertising?

Even in Cornwall, admittedly as a news junkie, I had discovered the form differences well before the poll, and it didn't worry me at all.
Logically if the system for electing local authories had been changed, Interested people should have been aware that the method of actually casting their votes would have been different.
If people had not made any attempt to understand these changes to the system then perhaps their votte shouldn't count anyway.

Hmmmm....... I didn't have any trouble filling in ballots - they even provided an idiots guide to doing it. I guess the neds of Wester Hailes were too busy with their crayons to understand.
Let's hope Salmond (anyone else notice the top two in the SNiP are named after fish?) can't do a deal with the whores of the Lib Dems, it would be so funny.

Although I understood it easily I do think for the old biddies especially (who are notoriously ignorant of anything new) the changes that were made would be too confusing.
They merged the two AMS ballots into one sheet of paper, plus the colours are very similar.
Then they introduce a completely new system of voting that is very alien to anything we've used before and give you both sheets at once.
Whilst having them on the same day would be acceptable a few years down the line, for this year they should have had the Holyrood election seperate as people had used that twice before, then have the council one seperately.
I did a postal vote myself, my mum however voted at my local polling station and the people there were talking every voter through the system. I'm not sure if every polling station would have been the same though.
