Why so critical (or bitter...) of these people who "shouldn't be allowed to read the news"? Did it ever to occur to you that they maybe just worked very hard and deserve their chance - with or without a journalistic qualification?
Sarah Heaney has gone on to present an ITV network programme, Maire Claire McManus has impressed enough to be given newsreading work and Nick Dixson is doing work for GMTV.
Their alleged lack of experience/qualification doesn't appear to be holding them back and it certainly doesn't seem to stop you from watching the programme.
Does anyone have anything positive to say about anything round here?

Sorry Mrs. McManus.....er, I mean, Clamop. Your wee lassie, er........... I mean Marie Claire is doing a grand job on the telly.
I can also recall the days when Narinji Sharinji (as Dorothy Paul calls her) used to stumble over every word when she first started out on ST with Agnes Simpson (as my Grannie used to call him - she could never manage to say the word "Angus" properly).
Marie Claire will - I am sure - progress onto being as good as the rest. It just takes time.
Alas, the same can NEVER be said for Dixon and Heaney. The fact that they have made it to network exposure is beyond me. They are both hideously bad and lack an iota of talent or credibility.
Cowcaddens through and through............

Bitter i don't think so.
Marie Claire McManus can't read news especially serious stories. She does not convey an understanding of what the story is all about. The girl is to busy trying to act and put on another voice she is dreadful as is her delivery .
Nick and Sarah have done well. They are NOT journalists however they are excellent Presenters that can be taken seriously. They also have the ability to absorb information quickly and think on their feet and above all deliver their Presenation naturally.
Sarah is far to good for STV and should be moving on to bigger and better things .I am just saying that STV should employ people to Present the news who are credible. Marie Clair is not a credible reader and Presenter of news .For your information there are plenty of trained journalists in the newsroom who have worked equally hard and are not getting the chance to move on because of bimbos like Marie Clair .
The reason i watch the programme is because i prefer it to RPS.STV do tend to provide more local news .One thing i admire about BBC though is the standard of Presenters and Reporters.Something that can't be said about STV these days with the exception of the core team of anchors on Scotland Today.

It's a forum where things related to TV are discussed and opinons are exchanged .

Good luck to the lot of them. I just don't understand all the negativity on this forum about everything.

Giving a balanced and unbiased view to this argument, as Lewis and Gavin knows, I don't live in Scotland any more and rarely get the chance therefore to see ST or RPS, my homeland regional news bulletins. Given that I don't see it on a daily basis like you guys do (i.e. only get to see it when I am passing through or visiting relatives back home), it is somewhat easier for me to give an immediate and objective opinion of how a bulletin or a presenter has progressed over the years.
The post I made above was, of course, made very much tongue in cheek. However, and although I am probably her greatest fan out side of the regulars on this forum, I do recall very clearly the time when Shereen made her first appearances on screen as a fill-in STV Scotland Today anchor. It was twenty years ago and in the same era as Sheena MacDonald, Malcolm Wilson and Angus Simpson.
Shereen was terrible. Absolutely terrible. Stumbling over sentences and unable to spit out a story without making a mistake, and very clearly unable to grasp the auto-cue well. She was, in a word, dire!!
Granted, twenty years later, she still makes the odd mistake and so on, but she has immense connectivity with the viewer, and does have (despite what other people think) journalistic capability. Hence, she is perceived by the viewer and her bosses as being ST's senior anchor.
Somehow, when you see Shereen at the top of a bulletin, you know that you are going to see something that is watchable for the next 30 mins.
I also recall similar feelings about people such as Louise White, Angus Simpson, Loraine Weber and even Viv Lumsden. When they all started out as anchors, they were, IMO, all wooden and not very good at all.
However, they ALL did develop into capable and unnaffected presenters.
Mairi Claire McManus is someone that I have never ever seen and heard of in my life. I have no clue who she is and what she has done in the past.
So, when I caught a glimpse of her on GMTV bulletins recently, I was naturally curious and wondered what and where she was from and so on. Unbiased view - and given the previous opinions that I have aired above about other individuals, it is unfair to write anyone off so soon. She may well progress to be the next Shereen or Kirsty Young or Anna Ford for that matter, who knows. But initial indications were that she was just thrown on screen because they didn't have anyone else. Sorry to be so blunt.
As Lewis posted above, there are so many other suited journalists in the STV newsroom who could have done this much better, so why put on someone who is clearly a million miles away from being ready to read the news on tv in a credible and coherent manner?
It would be like Jeremy Paxman or Kirsty Wark being unavailable for Newsnight one day, and deciding to put Trisha or Lorraine Kelly or Esther Rantzen or Judy Finnigan on in his place.
Bizarre choice. However, good luck to Mairi Claire.

You can't begin to compare Shereen to Marie Clair.Shereen started at STV back in 1983 as a Production Journalist by 1985 she was filling in on the odd ocassion for Sheena .By 1986 things had changed and Shereen became one of the main anchors of the programme with Angus when he joined STV from Border.
The point is she had served her time in the news room and had an understanding of news and the way the programme was put together .Her presentation skills did leave alot to be desired at the start but at least when Shereen was reading the news she connected with the story and had an understanding of what she was reading .Shereen also has an air of authority.
Viv i always felt was excellent and a great loss to the programme she was very professional and she had worked on RPS at BBC Scotland from 86-89 before joining STV.Viv started out presenting travel at the AA.
Marie Clair was Robin Galloways
side kick on Real Radio breakfast show she then got a spot on lunchtime Scotland Today on Mondays talking about the soaps
.She was suited to that type of thing despite the fact that she was the only Presenter at the station who would say and you can see that tonight on STV - hello it is now called Scottish TV onair anyway .
When Lousie White started back in 95 she took over from Kirsty Young Louise came from Good Morning Scotland .Lorraine Webber also worked as a PJ at STV and worked on programmes such as Scottish Action and Presented Trial By Night and Seven Days.
Sarah presented S2 Live on digital before joining Scotland Today.
Marie Clair is just some silly girl who wants to be a TV Presenter and she should NOT be reading news she is awful .I wish her well and hope she goes on to Present other lighter stuff but NOT news.
It's not her fault the head of news at STV should take a good look at what he is doing it just does STV no favours putting people like Marie onair reading the news.

Clamop, are you seriously suggesting that STV News Bulletin audiences have increased in number since Miss McManus started reading a couple of bulletins in the early morning?
Where do you get your facts from? Are you, in fact, Mairi Claire McManus herself????????????
