It must have been confusing on Wednesday evening for
Grampian
viewers, when the announcer at 6 p.m. said, "Good evening you're watching Scottish TV, and now the latest news across Scotland in Scotland Today"
I thought Grampian did a good job of covering the G8 Summit. It was a shame that technical difficulties with sound on Friday, took 15 minutes to rectify.

They're doing it again. The lead story is about a teenage boy who drowned in Perth, which is Grampian-land.
Meanwhile there was a near riot at an Orange Order parade last night in Glasgow. That's your lead for Scottish. BBC Scotland led on it but made a complete mess of it - no pictures, no images of smashed up windows, no witnesses, just tedious guff about the Scottish Executive and a dull comment from the police.
Hopeless. If I was ever in charge of either place I would be booting people up the a*** for this sort of coverage.

Actually it's worse than you think. In SOME parts of Perth you can pick up STV .The main news provider for the whole area is Grampian. The story about the teenage boy who sadly drowned happend in Blairgowrie where you can't even pick up the signal for STV .

The above explains why all continuity announcements prior to editions of Scotland Today say, “and now all the news from in and AROUND your region”.

Funny, but I think if ITV1 London started showing stories from the Meridian area as leads every night, or if Yorkshire led with Tyne Tees stories, there may be a few complaints.
SMG are cheating basically - there are three regions (two and a half really if you include half of Border) in Scotland, which are supposed to provide separate news services. Yet Scottish regularly leads on stories from Perth, Aberdeen etc, while Grampian has central belt stuff throughout their programme. Last night they led on a Perth kid drowning, while there was a near riot in the centre of Glasgow during an orange order parade that was not mentioned at all.
In certain circumstances (Lockerbie, Gleneagles etc) it would be insane for a Scottish news programme not to go outwith its area and cover these issues, but they should be in the minority. If some kid falls out a window in Aberdeen, or if some fishermen in Peterhead are complaining again, then that is not that exception.
Having said that, Scotland Today is still 100 times better than the absolute shambles that is Reporting Scotland. I have very few complaints about the news agenda or programme itself - I just wish they would stick to their region.

I was realy taken a back
to see Mhari Claire McManus reading the short news bulletins during GMTV this morning. She is NOT a journalist she was realy bad and didn't convey any understanding as to what she was actually talking about .Why is that STV have this policy to have people reading the news who are nothing more than wannabe TV presenters .Sarah Heaney,Nick Dixon and Mhari Claire McManus are not journalists .
SC
The newsroom is short staffed over the summer because the next two months involve a lot of training for the new Avid system that will come in on Aug 29th. They're having to take on some freelancers (including Marie Clair) to fill in some of the gaps so that the training can take place and normal programmes can be kept going at the same time.

I never watch the Grampian news these days.
Its coverage of the Tayside, and the Dundee surrounding area in particular, was very poor a few years back. It mainly concerned it self with Aberdeen and Inverness.
When T in the Park was on about 4 years ago, North Tonight didnt even mention it, even though STV did.

I can't believe that STV have Marie-Clair-McManus reading the news during GMTV .The girl is dreadful. Her delivery is very poor. She is trying to announciate with great difficulty she is also trying to project her voice but it sounds as though she is shouting.
Her soap spot on lunchtime Scotland Today was bad enough but at least she seemed to know what she was talking about and she was more natural. However when reading the news she is not conveying an understanding about the stories she is reading. She is trying to play at being a newscaster and has developed a strange voice.
It's a shame realy as the others on the Scotland Today team are great and this sort of thing realy lets the side down.
