Scotland Today is leading tonight with the events that have unfolded throughout the day at the school in Russia .Whilst this is a major and important news story i fail to see what relevance it has to the regional news in central Scotland .I quickly switched to Grampian on SKY and their main story was about Alex Salmon returning as head of the SNP .
Did any of the other ITV regions lead with todays events in Russia?.
I would expect that there is some relevance in Scotland Today running this story as it was in their area that the Dunblane shootings happened. I was thinking about that myself earlier this afternoon. It brought it to the front of my mind today (I was working as a newsreader when that tragedy happened), so I'm sure it brings back unhappy memories for many people in central Scotland.

Yes i see what you mean, however stricktly speaking Dunblane is in the Grampian transmission area .
...and I'd suggest that it's as tenuous as Anglia declaring an interest because people were involved. People live in the east of England, you see.
I'd say it's Scottish trying to act as a national broadcaster. It's lunchtime programme which followed the ITV News Channel coverage included a panel of experts from various Scottish institutions commenting on the news in Russia - there were no comparisons, connections or Scottish angles drawn whatsoever. It just seemed that Scottish wanted to follow the breaking news for themselves. And good on them - if I were in charge of a region, I'd have plugged myself into the News Channel. It somehow seemed more apt that Quincy.

I'd suggest that you are wrong.
Dunblane tragedy, a school where children were shot dead.
North Osettia, a school where children were shot dead.
Would you like to expand on your unnecessarily flippant comments?
My comments were not flippant. They were based on what I watched this afternoon. The two events are similar in that children were killed in a school. The context and the implications were utterly different. The link that was there wasn't even used by the programme, nor is it a strong one. Certainly not strong enough to devote your regional news programme to breaking news in Russia.
Now had Scotland Today taken the approach of comparing the two events, fine. Who could blame them. But they did not - other than vaguely echoing the Dunblane tragedy, there were no connections drawn. It was a programme that contained a panel discussion on the situation in Russia as it unfolded. Had the programme not been called Scotland Today, it would not have been out of place on the network. And as I say, it was far more comfortable in the schedule than Quincy and I am surprised it wasn't aired on Grampian as well. It was a very interesting watch.

Remember the 2pm programme is usually quite a soft news programme mainly devoted to phone-ins & features etc. They could not have ran that sort of content after the rolling news and they could not ignore events in Russia without looking silly. The result was a number of Scottish guests, a live phono from Russia and dipping in and out of a clean vision feed of the news channel. They also included a few minutes on the SNP at the end. As you said it was probably alot more appropriate than Qunicy
I don't see why they should have to make the link to Dunblane in order to justify the coverage (although I'm surprised it wasn't actually used). I think it would have been parochial to try and compare Dunblane to a sizeable terrorist group with explosives and guns holding hundreds of adults and children hostage over three days resulting in at least 150 dead.
Surely the justification is that producers thought that this is what their viewers would be interested in.

Well they didn't bother with it on the late bulletin ?.I still disagree Scotland Today is a regional news service nothing more .Infact sometimes it isn't even that they constantly steal news stories from North Scotland .What will it be next Shereen in the Sudan .
