Transmitting on BBC Two Scotland from 10.30pm on Mondays to Thursdays from May-October, the new 30-minute current affairs programme will demonstrate how Scotland impacts on national and global events and how national and global events impact on Scotland. The programme will replace Newsnight Scotland and will lead into Newsnight coming on air in Scotland in its entirety from 11pm.
Hope it doesn't last beyond the vote. Would prefer just to get Newsnight (UK) back in its entirety at the right time. What happens if either a major news story breaks during the UK programme or after 1120pm and it's being shown in Scotland later ?
Newsnight isn't really about breaking news though - and can't really think of an example where they've switched to breaking news although I'm sure there are some. I imagine they literally break the story and move on though - only lingering on it if they've got any facts rather than the speculative breaking news style of the news channels.
Didn't Newsnight do their own breaking news coverage when Nelson Mandela died? Though of course that hapenned just before the programme started not during, and probably could have aired 30 minutes later in Scotland if needed
