Personally on ITV1 I'd have two fixed 30 minute bulletins, both including the regional news, at 12.30pm and 5.30pm at the weekends, with a later flexible 15-minute bulletin around 11pm.

The lunchtime bulletins on a Saturday are surely not appointment to view for anyone, as people are busy doing whatever they are doing on a Saturday

The same could be said for all weekend bulletins.

In theory at least, there should be more people around for the Weekend lunchtime news than for the weekday equivalent - and with sport to preview and often developments on a Sunday morning, I think they could work.

Does Emmerdale still have no ads on a Sunday?

Yes, it's usually just a trailer or two. Nobody on here ever seems to have come up with a reasonable explanation as to why this is the case.

Surely the start of primetime on a Sunday evening is not a difficult place to sell advertising space.

It's because they bank up the advertising for later in the evening isn't it? The same as they do with regional programmes.

I think Emmerdale on a Sunday is the hook to the Sunday night schedule, once viewers tune in for that they stay with ITV1 until they go to bed - or at least that's what they hope will happen.

If it encouraged ITV do have a fixed 15 minute regional bulletin at teatime every week and at a time after the football results are in, I would say they could drop the lunchtime regional bulletin

After all the BBC have got away with airing just 1 bulletin per day for years

I agree. The lunchtime regional bulletins are quite pointless, they are about 4 minutes long and there is hardly any content in the programme. ITV certainly dont need a joint 30 minute national/regional bulletin at lunchtime at weekends. The would be better off having a longer bulletin at teatime - possibly 20 minutes for both national and regional what with sports results etc. They could still have a 10 minute summary of the national news at both lunchtime and late and the only regional bulletin that day at teatime.
