The thing is.... if it has been 'slagging off Trump' for 4 years is that because they're partisan? Or is it because there's been little in his administration that's gone well, and a lot of things have happened /been decided that aren't that easy to defend by a reasonable person. It's not easy for any news outlet to provide balance for some of the things that have happened.

He's now a twice impeached president, most of his administration have resigned or been fired and several of his associates have been found guilty or crimes and imprisoned, it's hardly been a success worth praising. If things had been different and <insert name of a Republican> was in the White House the last 4 years had been more conventional, quieter and less controversial their coverage would have been different.

Some might say the near obsession about him by elements of the US media (including CNN), led to his successful election win.

All publicity, is good publicity as long as they spell your name correctly.

You are correct in that Trump is like any President we've ever seen in our lifetimes (and likely will again).

On the one hand, however, Fox News could always find lots of talking heads to defend him. CNN/MSNBC could also always find lots of talking heads to slag him off.

Pundits are ten-a-penny.

Given the oversupply of pundits on either side, it's the easiest thing in the world to balance opinions and viewpoints out between supporters and detractors within the available airtime.

However, it does not suit Fox, CNN, or MSNBC because they have an agenda (which I have no problem with) and they're there to pursue that agenda.

You can reach a state of zen as a person if:

• you lean (slightly) right and can watch CNN/MSNBC without getting angry or
• you lean (slightly) left and can watch Fox News without getting angry.

However, all networks want their viewers to be angry because it makes better TV.

My personal favourite talking head was Glenn Beck - not because I necessarily agreed with him but it was just the strangest thing ever.

Agreed on Glenn Beck. I used to watch that show semi-regularly on Fox.
That programme was as mad as a box of frogs but thoroughly entertaining. Pure theatre

If you didn't watch it, the shows entire run can be distilled down to one sentence... Anything and anyone that is not 100% in alignment with Beck's own view is Marxist.

Plus, they have the welcoming prospect of shouting down the 'injustice' of the second impeachment on a half hourly basis once that gets going.
I still think that was a trap that President Donnie J. Trump Jrn set for the democrats to fall into, to steal all the attention from (vice) President J Biden's first 100 days in the Oval office.

Oh, absoultely. It was pure pre-planned theatre. A man constantly on the edge of a televised meltdown. Blood pressure going sky high for the sake of a news commentary programme, and most times, explaining his hair brained extreme Republican-esque ideology using nothing more than shouting, crocodile tears and a blackboard.

And yet, the amount of times in full red faced rage mode, he managed to hit the junction into the next hour and programme and introduce it as though the dramatics of the previous 60 minutes had not happened was quite something.

One of the major negatives about him being impeached is it means he isn't yesterdays news come the Biden administration. That and the insurrection means he'll still be getting attention in the months ahead, and I suspect he craves that more than power.

What will be interesting is the direction Murdoch goes - there is no way they'll go full on Biden but we've seen in the UK as much as people say he influences the electorate, usually the Murdoch press just actually follows the power and goes where they think public opinion lies.

Looks like a perfect time to have Megyn Kelly back. She has been very Trump neutral, for some time, and very antiLiberal PC crowd.

I don't think Megyn Kelly would want to go back to Fox, somehow.

Her numbers were never that amazing.
