By saying 'goodbye' you put in the viewers mind that it's the end and they can go and do something else. Not something the regions would be too happy about. Same reason as why presenters on N24 and 5 Live don't really say goodbye - they promo ahead to the next presenters to keep people watching.

Yep the same strategy as with BBC World as well, despite telling viewers what is on before ending the bulletin properly, but no viewers are dumb, and presume will turn over if they say goodbye, at the end of the day if viewers know what is coming on next, they will stick with the channel!!!!!!!

Peter and Moira were the King and Queen of the Goodbyes when they fronted the Six together during the 90's.

Such eloquent and well matched farewells, especially on a Friday evening, when they religiously presented together.

I also noticed that he sits so that he no longer bobs up and down!

I thought this thread was going to be another attention seeking barney boo type thred.

That aside. the problem is extended now as the bulletins don't have proper endings anymore, just some music. They should have full closing titles and not just a rubbishy logo overlayed

Tina Bangs of North West Today always has a good signing off style. She always tells people to have a good night out on a Saturday and it feels more warmer and friendlier.

Sophie Raworth, always says Have a very good evening and on a Friday always says Have a very nice weekend, bye bye which is warm and friendly.

Moira Stuart tends to be very welcoming with a "Morning to you" at the start and I think (though cannot accurately remember) there is a similar style fairwell at the end of her bulitens.

I think it's just a "that's all from me, now back to Dermot and Natasha" usually.

Her intro at 8am yesterday was unusually casual though. Who'd have ever expected a "Hiya" from Big M? I nearly choked on my muesli.

David Braine always manages to get a "bye" hand signal in on Spotlight in the evenings before they cut back to the network... and I'm sure Craig Rich used to do the same thing. They're the only news type people I've ever seen do it!
