I think Scotland Today is an excellent news programme. I think John Mackay and Shereen Nanjiani really connect with the viewers well.

Exactly, what are people complaining about? It's one of the best regional TV News programmes. My favourite presenter is Sally Magnusson, she's very professional.

2007 for the beeb but im not sure about scottish tv. I am slightly puzzled that theyre moving there to as aprt from anything else, they are based in the city centre. And i can state for the record that noone in Glasgow wants to watch a story about a missing cat in Wick. This is just like livin in Hartlepool and watching news stories about life in Wales Very Happy . Just because we are a nation it makes little difference. Arrow

I think the 2000 era was the a great time for Scotland Today. It had a great logo and great studio. The music was also good as well

Ok, sorry. However, I think Scotland Today's OK, but not as good as Reporting Scotland.

Reporting Scotland is beyond saving, but it ain't because of the studio.

It's because of the tedious box-ticking news agenda which sees a murder trial in Glasgow being given 15 seconds and a story about a type of rock in Orkney being discovered five minutes. It's because the region is far too large - you can't hope to cover it all properly. The presenters are wooden and have no charisma - see Scottish TV for how to do this presenting lark properly. One of the titles (I think it's the short ones) still have Irish names like Londonderry in the background. Every third intro starts with: "The Scottish Executive has announced..." The whole programme seems to have been designed by someone who worked on one of the worse English regional programmes with a dire news patch who reckons Scotland is just a region, hence the boring three or four and finallys at the end. It's tedious, boring, irrelevant and a great example of why ITV should not be allowed to ditch their regional news - because if you give the BBC a monopoly, their programmes will become even worse.

Phew, I feel better now... Razz
Your right. I should have titled this save the studio. no aja i do not have an email address for them and even if I did they probabley would not respond. I definately think that Reporting Scvotland should perhaps introduce an opt-out service during the bulletiin:
1. for the borders even though most of the area receives "look north"
2. The central belt [I] Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, etc. and
3. For the north and the islands.
You probably would not even need to introduce this from new studios.
1. Either from Dumfries or even a CSO in Glasgow
2. From the Newsroom Set and
3. From either Inverness, Aberdeen or a CSO in Glasgow.
These opts would be pre-recoreded. Wink

Well I know that the BBC in Dumfries is moving to larger premises, but I'm not sure when. But when they do I think they may introduce the much talked about opt for Dumfries and Galloway. I have been in their current home, and it is.... well... not much else but an attic space. They 2 radio studios, although only one in operation, and a tiny newsroom.

I hope the 2007 move to Pacific Quay will see a great new look to Rep Scot, and hopefully a change of content too. I think the idea of opts for each part of the country would be a good idea.

Scotland Today though needs a bit of a revamp. Theres nothing wrong with it now but it has been over 2 years since the last new look. Even just do what utv did and have corporate idents and astons except with a light blue square. and maybe a few blue squares on the walls.... Very Happy

I've always wanted it to be like that since all the news programmes changed. I don't think SMG would be happy about that though. Sad

Well for the 'North Tonight' relaunch they are talking about making it sympathetic to the ITV look but still maintaing the individual look. I like the Scotland Today set and the way they adapt it for their other programmes.

It's very happy (if a little worse for wear after being moved around every week) in its new home at Glasgow Uni.
