Why is it that BBC Scotland have made *NO* attempt at starting again at the RS studio. I mean lets face it, its' the pitts. I have come up with a plan. Why not have the current studio kept and add a burgandy/grey couch to the studio. And add a small coffee table to the area and perhams the old plasma screens with the "spare" one at the side used for the weather and the sport finally back in the studio. It would not cost that much and it would stop the crap standing up thing. Because lets face it , whoever came up with that idea should be sacked. And, at night the Newsnight Scotland set could still be used as the couch would be in sections and removable. C'mon BBC Scotland. Get Your act together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reporting Scotland is beyond saving, but it ain't because of the studio.
It's because of the tedious box-ticking news agenda which sees a murder trial in Glasgow being given 15 seconds and a story about a type of rock in Orkney being discovered five minutes. It's because the region is far too large - you can't hope to cover it all properly. The presenters are wooden and have no charisma - see Scottish TV for how to do this presenting lark properly. One of the titles (I think it's the short ones) still have Irish names like Londonderry in the background. Every third intro starts with: "The Scottish Executive has announced..." The whole programme seems to have been designed by someone who worked on one of the worse English regional programmes with a dire news patch who reckons Scotland is just a region, hence the boring three or four and finallys at the end. It's tedious, boring, irrelevant and a great example of why ITV should not be allowed to ditch their regional news - because if you give the BBC a monopoly, their programmes will become even worse.
Do remember that BBC Scotland is moving to Pacific Quay in 2007, and there's talk of a real window looking out as part of the studio. This studio seems to be an in-between stage, although I do agree that it is dire and it would have been best for them to leave itas it was for another 2-3 years.
Your idea of couch and coffee table would certainly improve the look of the programme, but I would personally prefer them to be behind a desk. Standing up is fine, but only if used in small doses, but the fake backdrop is just pathetic. They'd be better using their real newsroom as a background!

Phew, I feel better now...
Your right. I should have titled this save the studio. no aja i do not have an email address for them and even if I did they probabley would not respond. I definately think that Reporting Scvotland should perhaps introduce an opt-out service during the bulletiin:
1. for the borders
even though most of the area receives "look north"
2. The central belt [I] Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, etc. and
3. For the north and the islands.
You probably would not even need to introduce this from new studios.
1. Either from Dumfries or even a CSO in Glasgow
2. From the Newsroom Set and
3. From either Inverness, Aberdeen or a CSO in Glasgow.
These opts would be pre-recoreded.
I would like to see the 6.30 Reporting Scotland come from the newsroom set. The programme could revert back to a one presenter format, and a few tweeks and it would be fine coming from the small desk. One thing I have never figured out is the camera shot they use, we see very little of the newsroom, and instead we see the gallery. But before thew June relaunch last year, we saw the main part of the newsroom.
I agree with you.Scotland Today Presenters are far superior to those at BBC .Shereen John and Sarah all have the nack of connecting with their stories and viewers can't bare Stephen Louise and Nick though .
I do prefer Scotland Today even though they often cover stories in aberdeen for some reason Uch well ye cannae win them aw. I do like the idea of the opt-outs.
But lets be 100% honest, we cannot have a crap standing up 100% fake set with presenters putting in 50% effort. Better presenters, with a studio with a couch - a bit of red wouldn't go a miss - and your laughing all the way to the RTS awards...
who has any other ideas and poss. mocks on how to improve it without a bulldozer. Pacific Quay construction process is coming on well. For all people unaware of its location, its beside the IMAX, glasgow tower and Science Centre, accross from Beat 106 Radio station and Accross the clyde from the SECC.

Obviously im not from Scotland but i would have thought that if its a big story viewers in the South would still want to know about with it being one country. And BTW when are the moves to pacific quay for both BBC and Scottish.
