i think Mike started 1964 on Look North but before that presented Roundabout on Tyne Tees TV from the mid 1950s. That's some going. He had over 40 years almost continous presenting until this year and his blood clot. In his BBC days he wouldn't take time off as he reckoned people would burgle his hous if he wasnt on the tele at 6.30!
He couldn't have been presenting Roundabout (or NE Roundabout) from the mid 1950's as TTTV didn't commence broadcasting until January 15 1959.

No, but I believe Mike is the longest-serving regional news broadcaster.

IIRC he started at Tyne Tees in 1962 as a continuity announcer, moving to the news the same year, launching NE Newsview in 64 before leaving to join the BBC a couple of months later.

To be in regional television for over 40 years is some feat, isn't it, jason. To think that before Sky came along (now that people can watch Tyne Tees from anywhere in the UK) Mike Neville was hardly known outside the North-East (except when he popped up on Nationwide in the 1970's reporting from Newcastle.)

Of course, Stewart White was a continuity announcer with Southern until he left to join ATV in Birmingham.

Add two dearly departed personalities to the list:

Border's Eric Wallace who clocked up 34 years as anchor of Lookaround - 30 of those of which were "official" (1968-1998) plus the 4 years he spent presenting it after his retirement.

And dear old Twice-Nightly himself who spent 27 years at the helm of Calendar (1968-1995).

The only presenter who has been there for any significant length of time compared to those already mentioned here in the Yorkshire region is Harry Gration.

But the fact he left in the mid 90s and ended up working on South Today may make him void for this competition!

Indeed so yes.

The North East has had a number of very long-serving veterans over the years. One that springs to mind is Alister Harrison, who was with TTTV from the start in 1959 and only fully retired in around 1997. Whilst never a fully-fledged presenter (reporter mainly) he did present short bulletins for most of his time at the station. He was distinctive in having a strong local accent at a time when this was rare.

TTTV has its fair share of current veteran presenters as well. Pam Royle, Andy Kluz and Dawn Thewlis have all been there since the mid-1980s, Roger Tames for 27 years and even Jonathan Morrell has been there on-and-off since 1990.

Yes, I was expecting to see that name as soon as I clicked on the thread!

For anybody who doesn't know about him, click here.
