As someone wrote in the ITV News thread, the breaking news was mentioned on ITV1 and the News channel at the end of the 1030 news. BBC News 24 didn't have it in their 11 o'clock headlines but did spend some time on it at the top of the bulletin and had Jake Lynch in studio. But Sky News - the news service which claims to have "the technology that brings it to the heart of the news - FIRST" seems to be completely ignoring it. There has not even been a Sky News flash. Are they running a pre-recorded bulletin? I think this one goes to ITV. Even now, they are the only service to be running an update on screen. Surely two planes going down constitutes NEWS?
N24 also spoke to David Learmount of Flight International - the usual rentaquote on these occasions.
Re ITV News - But will they cover it properly from 11.30 onwards given that that bulletin is recorded and replayed at midnight and 12.30? I hope they do.
Yes, John Draper said at 1130 on ITV NC that they would being us more as it comes in so looks like they won't be doing a pre-recorded bulletin tonight. It's only the second story on the BBC at 1130 - again Jake Lynch in studio . What is up with Sky?
ITVNC now has The Times's Moscow correspondent on the line.
Shame ITV doesn't have anyone in Moscow these days, though I appreciate that it is now a far less significant city in world affairs than it used to be.
Yes, IMHO, they are dealing with this breaking story very very well given that it is the middle of the night in Russia. Even if it turns out to be two tragic accidents, they are doing what a 24 hour news channel should do. If this had happened at ten o'clock in the morning, the BBC and Sky would be all over it. Credit to the ITV NC where it's due.
Oh Sky have eventually mentioned it at 1143. (Applause). So I'm baffled as to whether they were running a pre-record or were simply slow to react - almost an hour after ITV.
