Whenever I have watched it, it doesn't seem to have any commercial breaks.
So who is paying to keep it on the air ?

Launched by by a non-profit organisation, but mostly funded by the state.

The top of the hour graphics have changed, as well as the music. No other changes though.

I think the Russians have a greater understanding of 'international news' than the Americans certainly do.

How many times have I heard the phrase "Wales in England" on Fox, for example.

I know that a few years ago, RT was advertising for English journalists. More often than not journalists have to work in radio or newspapers before graduating to television news, RT offered jobs to journo's that were straight out of Uni.

I'm not saying that's a compromise on quality at all, in fact I'm sure they are very good! It made a nice change for those lucky enough to be at stage of their career to immediately jump to TV, which others have to wait years to do.

RT unsettles me a bit. It doesn't have a strong enough brand to attract viewers, however it does fare better than some international channels in terms of content. If tuning to a news channel, I invariably want to watch news. Recently on CNN, whenever I tune in, it's special programmes or 'Connect the World' or Quest Means Business. They are good shows, but I much rather watch a news wheel programme, with standard reports and a mixture of news/sport and business.

Having said that, I'd probably watch CNNi or FOX above CCTV or RT because America has high standards of journalism and news gathering, compared to the rest!
