But wasn't RT a part of RIA Novosti? What happened?

RIA Novosti helped launch RT, but they claim that's all. Once it was established, it was independent (again, so they claim). Of course it's all a fig leaf to cover the fact that they're taking everything from the state news agency.

RIA Novosti was a completely different animal to RT - despite being launched as part of the same corporate body. It provided a pretty standard news agency service within defined limits. What looks set to replace it will likely provide out and out propaganda, considering its head is a, well, a prominent propagandist.

This feature article from February might be an indication of how independent RIA actually was: http://en.ria.ru/analysis/20140226/187910994/Russias-Best-Bet-in-Ukraine-Sitting-on-the-Fence-for-Now.html

RT appear to be using Anastasia Churkina's infamy by getting her to present their new feature since the Ukraine crisis started, Propaganda Watch.

This was being hosted by Gayane Chickayan who since Liz Wahl resigned has moved to the presenting team of RT America. Until Wahl's departure, all the anchors were American. Ms Chickayan is Armenian.

Here's an old one

Where does Ofcom stand on three minute long commentaries like this in news programs?

I don't know the rules myself, however they should put a disclaimer before the start of this feature or schedule it after the bulletin, so that it counts as an opinion feature rather than as news.

RT have the facility to opt-out in the UK to meet Ofcom rules where I think they've scheduled other shows in addition to Sputnik and Going Underground so they don't air shows that don't meet the requirements.

RT is a regular of Ofcom's Broadcast Bulletin, so don't be surprised if Propaganda Watch will feature in the near future.

Allegations of Liz Wahl's exit were planned with a right-wing think tank after she was demoted from the anchor's chair last year and lost out on a job at Al Jazeera America.

The source appears to be a "9/11 truther" out to discredit Ms Wahl and has connections to a certain A Martin.

For a news resource, that has to be the worse piece of 'journalism' I've seen. It's playground nonsense.

More RT-based fun: http://rt.com/shows/the-truthseeker/media-staged-chem-attack-645/

This time, the BBC allegedly staged chemical attack in Syria and CNN have been infiltrated by the CIA.

Yep.

Yep, and this is carried in more homes than Aljazeera America. I don't know either.

Breaking the Set, the show which had Abby Martin's statement against the Russian invasion of Crimea is going on the road. They're planning a week of shows from Vancouver.
