This Guardian article advocates Ofcom taking further action against RT - stopping short of calling for a ban: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/apr/24/ukraine-russia-putin-news-reporting

It also appears to reveal some particularly unsightly opinions held by one of the anchors, Rory Suchet.

Quote:
According, for example, to Rory Suchet, RT's main news anchor, other news channels are controlled by "financiers" and "corporations". It is all, he told me, part of the "military-industrial complex" and he mused how some people believe "there is too much Jewish money in America". There is an argument, he suggested, that "Jewish money controls a huge amount of foreign policy in Washington".

Is Rory related to Richard from Sky News?

Yesterday the editor in chief of RT and the state news agency, Margarita Simonyan, tweeted "Ukraine RIP". Gives you faith that RT is being utterly impartial in its coverage!

On RT Ticker, there is John Kerry saying "Propaganda Machine" is Unstable. Anissa Naouai now comments on what John Kerry said during press briefing. Yulia Shapavola anchors early morning Shift.

Watching back the RT interview with Anissa Naouai about John Kerry's comments about RT being a "propaganda bullhorn" which turned into a plug for her own new show, she mentioned that the format of her show allows anti-Putin experts "a voice" yet when her producer has tried to book these experts, they've turned them down based on the premise that RT is a propaganda channel.

What has been clear, at least from the staff at Moscow is that they really believe they're providing an alternative voice, even if it's only suiting the Putin regime. I doubt the Kremlin would be funding an international news channel if they were reporting on the persecution of gay people or minorities in Russia.

Some caps from RT's interactive show, In the NOW which airs at 7pm BST. Good use of the main studio and newsroom.

Did Lord Haw Haw get a similar accolade?

According to Wikipedia, "Adolf Hitler awarded Joyce [i.e., "Lord Haw Haw"] the War Merit Cross (First and Second Class) for his broadcasts, although they never met."

Breaking the Set and Boom Bust today with Victory Day special astons

The Moscow based presenters, Russian and Western are all wearing Victory Day ribbons. Will be interesting to see if this will also include the RT America presenters later today.
