This year's RTS Television Journalism Awards nominations (for coverage in 2009/2010) have been released.

The BBC have 11 nominations this year, Sky News has 8, and ITN has 19 nominations (11 for ITV News and 8 for Channel 4). In total, Channel 4 is nominated for 13 awards including its investigative documentaries.

Surprising is the lack of nomination for the BBC Ten O'Clock News in the News Programme of the Year. The nominees this year are ITV's News at Ten, Channel 4 News (at 7) and Five News. I think Channel 4 may just steal this one.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy is hosting the ceremony this year on 23 February.

More details here and the list in full here.

The nomination of Channel 5 News for the News Programme of the Year certainly does surprise me. However, I feel Anna Botting's nomination as Presenter of the Year is well-deserved - although I do love Jon Snow's work. I would hope AJE would be recognised as News Channel of the Year, however, I feel this would be a little premature considering they have only really gained critical acclaim for their Egypt coverage. Mark Kleinman definitely deserves to be recognised as the best specialist journalist, his coups for Sky News were outstanding.

A good nomination list!

My Winner theories/would like to see's:

News programme of the Year -> ITV News at Ten
News channel of the Year -> Sky News (although I'd like to see Al Jazeera UK get it)
Current affairs (home) -> Panorama
Nations and Regions -> BBC Look East (very good if not the best local News programme on the BBC)
News coverage -> Sky News (Student Protests)
Presenter of the Year -> Jon Snow (Channel 4 News)

Just a selection.

Not long now people - next week Smile I just wish they'd televise it on the news channels (maybe they don't because if a rival was to win.... ). Wink

I think it might be considered somewhat too self-indulgent if broadcasters were to televise the awards. That said, it doesn't stop them bragging 24/7 when they win...!

The 'awards-dinner' only started at 19:30. Looking back at last years thread, the first results started to come out on twitter at around 21:45.

Hmm, well deserved? Laughing Haiti coverage was brilliant and fully deserved to win, though.
Also, will they start calling the programme "ITV News at Ten" on-air now instead of just "ITV News"?
