The BBC seem slightly under-represented there. And why is George Alagiah up for an award? I'm sure there are more worthy presenters. Confused

I so hope ITV win the News Channel of the Year award. That would be a major embarrasment for the ITV chiefs!

That would be an ironic end to the NC, but an unlikely one seeing as the reason it was closed was due to its unpopularity.

It's not a popularity contest.
The jurors are unlikely to have made their decision based on the size of the audience. These are high-minded journalists who will want to praise what's best in the industry, not merely to hand out plaudits based on overnights.
Having said that I think it's highly unlikely that the News Channel will win for News Channel of the Year.
More interesting would be if they were to win for News Event.
As each organisation can put in up to three entries for the News Event catergory I would be astounded if the BBC and Sky News hadn't entered their 7/7 coverage.
Interesting that only ITV's has been nominated.

A few random questions about the awards. Firstly, when a News at 10 Cameraman is nominated, I assume it means someone who has bene working in the field for the Ten, rather than someone who controls the cameras in N6, because last time I checked there was nothing revolutionary there! Also, how was the ITV News Channel's 7/7 coverage better than the BBC's or Sky News, and on that subject I think Martin Brunt (Sky Crime Correspondent) deserves recognition, he was superb during July.

Yes, for the people who do all the hard work!

Didn't see it so don't know what it was like, but ITN did have the advantage that their building is very near to 3 of the 4 bombs (mind you they were the nearest broadcaster to the Chancery Lane Tube accident, but totally hashed it up!)

So, with the ceremony occurring this week, who do you predict will win the awards? I reckon Sky News will make News channel of the year again, ITV Evening News for news programme, and JT for presenter of the year. As for lifetime achievement, well, who could it be...?

I don't know, since the new scheduel arrived at Sky, BBC News 24 has been gaining in popularity, and is getting alot better. With the arrival of News 24 Tonight programme, which really puts the national, regional and world news in context.

Interesting that all the 'News-home' nominations are all ITN nominations. They have done pretty well nominations-wise.

The nominees are quite a ropey bunch , whats Dimbleby doing there , he's no more than average on Question time and apart from that dreary art show of his what else has he done lately ?

The irony of ITVNC winning an award would be quite apt for the stupids at ITV, i hope the now defunct channel does get a prize.

It would be amusing if it got News Channel of the year, something it could well do after the July Bombing coverage.
