I dont know if anyone else has posted it but here are the 2003-2004 RTS journalism awards. I'm not sure who should win what but I think "The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear" should win the current affairs programme list as I thought it was excellent and pretty interesting.

It's a difficult choice for presenter of the year - Jon Snow, Julie Etchingham and Alastair Stewart. All are excellent presenters, but would like Jon to get it, along with C4 News as news programme of the year.

I can't believe Reporting Scotland is in the category for best regional news show - but i suppose compared to some regions it actually has decent news stories.

Does the Tsunami coverage not qualify? it did happen in 2004 and there was excellent coverage from BBC, Sky and ITN.

No doubt BBC London News will get best regional news magazine...well come on if London Tonight can win it...

And would I be cynical in thinking that the specialist journalism award has already gone to Frank Gardner?

No, Wales Today is by far the best local news programme on the BBC.

It really narks me to see ITV get so much credit for their Beslan coverage.

If people cast their minds back to the day itself, it started with Sky and the BBC with in-vision correspondents outside the school, and ITV will Manyon very VERY infrequently on the phone.

As it progressed, the BBC remained outside the school, Sky managed to get inside first with some very impressive and dramatic reporting, then Manyon blundered in about an hour later and saw bodies in the gym. He was entirely unwatchable - about as unflappable as a feather - and more concerned about telling everyone what he had seen rather than what was going on.

The innovation category is pretty weak. If the best they can find is C4's Snowmail - a concept that's been going for years - then god help us.

I truly believe that Julie Etchingham should win the presenter award. In my opinion she is one of the best if not the best news presenters on tv at the moment.

She is extremely versatile and professional, and this can clearly be seen through her abilities to deal with rolling and breaking news on sky effortlessly, her confident, informative, professional yet friendly approach when she is on location (eg Phuket) and the way in which she can then also deal with news bulletins on five.

When Julie and Martin Stanford present Sky News Today, it is I believe one of the best news programmes around; it is informative, interesting and extremely watchable.

Julie Etchingham's presenting from Phuket for both Sky and Five was some of the best news presenting I have seen for many years and it definitely overshadowed anything the BBC had.

I just hope Sky keep hold of her and that she wins the award!

I don't doubt it. But out of the BBC London News and London Tonight - when the poor ITN programme wins it...it says something about the RTS (admitedly only the London regional) awards.

Interesting however that Wales Today has been nominated for one "story" rather than a programme as a whole...why is this?

In regards to the specialist journalism award, I think Frank Gardner deserves it much more than the other two journalists nominated, even though Hilary Anderson was excellent last year for her reports in the Sudan . I'm not sure I know who Sarah Barclay is or what she has done, would anyone be able to tell me?

Fact is though they have only got 2 nominations for it and one of them was for the 10.30 so that had nothing to do with breaking news. As for their nomination for news event- im sure thats partly to do with the fact that ITV1 carried it (when BBC1 weren't) and it was very dramatic and felt like a news event especially when they revealed the scale of the deaths (CNN simulcast that live coverage across the world)

Not sure what 'Salam Pax – GuardianFilms/Newsnight for BBC Two' is, but purely on an innovation basis, I can't see there's much contest between the ITV News semi-virtual set and C4 Snowmail! Hasn't email been going for decades? The ITV News set is just a tad more innovative than that...

I think Salam Pax was the Iraqi Blogger that Newsnight featured through the reconstruction of Iraq. He films his own reports and they are quite good and I have always found them really interesting. I would like to see him win.
