No.

Answer the question that's been put (TWICE) to you. It's only common courtesy.

I just don't understand how the judges thought that the BBC News Channel was the best last year, and haven't even nominated it this year, giving the award instead to Sky, when neither channel has had any changes over the last year.

If both channels have stayed the same, why haven't the awards stayed the same!

IMHO, the BBC should be the leader in innovation... I don't undertand why they lack the willingness to do it- maybe come 2011 we'll see something new in their new building at BH.

Innovate in what way? What exactly do you watch a news channel for?

Personally I'd prefer that they just do sensible no-nonsense good honest news rather than resorting to gimmicks

Well, maybe it's a taste thing - but it's nice to see presentation away from the main desk more which Sky do. Their interactive news service i've always found more detailed than BBC News'. However I do think the BBC News website is much better than the Sky one.

I did wonder that and will admit it was a disappointment they weren't nominated. Would have been interesting to see CNN Europe get the award.

How do the nominations work?

Er, maybe because the news has been different over the last year?

Also remember that the awards and nominations aren't chosen by the RTS watching lots of telly, the broadcasters submit entries to them of their best output.

Or maybe the coverage has been slightly different?

The reason for that would be that the BBC tend to go into more detail on their shows, as well as analysis also being available online, on Radio 4/5live, on BBC Parliament and on red button.

There's a greater machine behind BBC News' work.

Mr. Gummidge, you appear to be a little confused, reading your earlier comments. There is a clear line between "gimmick" and "innovation" and you seem to be mixing the two terms up. Standing up to read the news is certainly not innovative, even if it does put that message in your head. Sure, seeing Ben Brown standing up would make a change from seeing him stuck behind a desk, but people just aren't into that sort of thing anymore (if they even were to begin with). That's why the BBC news channel does what it does best from behind a desk and that's why ITV has all but ditched that gimmick completely.

Or maybe BBC newscasters are all bottomless torsos...

Yes, it's all down to the coverage, the stories in that year and what's submitted as an entry.

To say that both channels were exactly the same this year and last year is a nonsense, no news channel is the same from day to day!

Yes, it doesn't matter whether the presenters are at a desk, standing up, walking around, sitting on a stool or on a sofa... or whether there's whizzy graphics flying around... it's the news content that's the important thing.

The news channel of the year award must be the most difficult to decide baring in mind the material that must be submitted? Is it a panel of judges that chooses the short list and then the winner on the night?
