Robert Peston up for two awards and the two News at Ten's up against each other for best programming.

I can't say I think very much of Robert Peston's delivery and style - nor of the fact that he comes across as quite arrogant - but he clearly knows his stuff, and broke some big stories last year.

Is this the first time that Al-Jazeera English has been in the line-up for RTS News Channel of the Year? In previous years, I'm sure it's only been BBC News (24) and Sky News (and of course the ITN/ITV News Channel back in the day). Why is AJE now being included, and are other international news channels such as CNN also considered for the award?

AJE was up last year. In actual fact, I think Al Jazeera English should recieve the award. They've had a lot of very professional reports, and were especially good during the Gaza crisis at the start of the year.

Can't believe they ignore CNN like that, the first 24 hour news channel, the mother of all of them. Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad

Wouldn't bet against The West Tonight winning the regional award, which would be a bit of an embarrassment for ITV. Didn't they win something for the News Channel after they closed that too?

I assume it's because AJI broadcasts to the UK, whereas BBC World doesn't.

Why would it be an embarrasment to win an award?

I have to admit it would be nice for BBC News channel to win the award for News channel of the year but I think Sky News will win it for the 10th year in a row??? I don't think the channel is 'big' enough.

Did the BBC News Channel not win it in 2006 or there abouts?

Because it technically no longer exists. Acceptance speech could be interesting though.
