Granada News just said they won the Regional News Programme of the year for the 2nd year running and the presenter had the trophy there with her.

God - that's even more shocking. The awards are obviously voted for by Londoners then.

I think with only Sky and News 24 really able to call themselves British news channels they should change that award to something like News Service of the Year, so the service ITV, C4 and Five provide with their bulletins alone can be taken into consideration too.

There's nothing about the channel having to be British, and how do you define a british channel? A fair chunk of AJE is produced in London

Anyone know who won the other awards?

I disagree, as News Channel and News Service are completely different things. One is scripted, one is rolling - they cover things differently and the award would end up being rather unfair because of the broadness and vagueity of the award.

In a way, I see this as a positive. While BBC News 24 is easily the best news channel in the UK, it still has a long way to go, and perhaps BBC management will see this as a huge embarrasment and stop the cuts to BBC News.

Look you have to make the distinction between the management and the general workers.

What utter tosh! It's not News Channel 'workers' (if you can call working in an office work?) of the Year? If they work for sh*t managers then that's their hard luck.

May be, may be I look at these things through rose-tinted eyes, I dunno. But I don't really care tbh, go rest your eyes it's gone 11.

Yessir!

Soz if I came across a bit blunt, but I was desperate to finish off planningg my lessons for tomurrow.

A 700% increase in awards from last year isn't a triumph?

Well I wouldn't agree that it was a triumph, more of an improvement. Had the BBC won either News Channel or News Programme award I think it could be considered a triumph.

EIther they've changed the headline or there's no mention of the word triumph!

They've changed the headline - I copied it directly.

The ITV Evening News seems to have been news programme of the year for the last few years - when was the last time someone else won it?
