Has got a new look!
(I think this is more news-related than posting on the general discussion forum as it's part of the News & Current Affairs Division)

Clearly the heads that be could not survive another second of that montrous pile of glowing red mush and faux-timber panels that consituted a 'set' for Q&A, launched not even 2.5 years ago - easily the worst set on a professional television service in these islands in living memory.

The new look actually looks like a set now - there are decent wides achievable, and it looks much bigger than it actually is.
I could only get photographs of my television screen - no grabs yet Embarassed

Kinda dated looking to a degree - somewhat early 90s (which I like Smile)
The yokes at the top are a bit naff though - a classic RTÉ ploy from 10 years ago to fill the upper parts of studios with floating panels:

Three-shot - the desk is much more hardwearing than last time, but the main facing panel to the front looks like that shiny kids foil used to cover school books and the like Shocked

Min Dermot Ahern and aston:

The astons seem to be in the vein of the current RTÉ News look, but the logo to the bottom i think is very dated.

Don't know what to make of it all yet - haven't had a chance to look at it posting this! Very Happy
A great improvement though - God anything would be an improvment!

You beat me to it, Telefis Very Happy . I think the new look is far better and more impressive than before. The set is much more stylish, more expensive-looking and well-thought-out. It does however have a "late 90s" look to it - even like the last RTE News look. But definately a big big improvement. I like the warm dark colours unlike the previous orange Confused . The lit-up writing in the background panels is a nice touch but a bit dated. But overall well done to them.

To be honest, I like it (as in it is an improvement) but like I wouldnt be bragging about it

It looks very much like a Church with that font aswell as the colouring

The other problem I have is the writing on the wall. Just there it looked like i was watching ONS SW cos 1) the camera didnt have it in full view and 2) the persons head was blocking. They should have it lower, higher or not at all

Ok but not great

The graphics aren't great - very wishy washy...

Yes the dark scheme is nice and sultry, and the carpet on the floor makes all the difference - no scuff marks, or dodgy joints. You can't beat carpets on sets.

The deep glow of the set is very professional - clearly rear-illuminated, as everything is going now. It adds depth, and a snazziness to things!

Yes the lettering is certainly dated on the set, I'm surprised they went for that in 2005. No small mics either, more of the same clunky intrusive models as before on the desk Sad

The lighting is much better too though - nice softly lit panellists for once!

No great shakes, but a very welcome improvement.
Eithne O'Donovan designed the set, Mick Nalty graphics (think he's in-house).

While having a peep at this studio, a couple of moidifications and it wouldnt be such a bad election studio.Like differnt backing and more light would be good

Have to agree about the carpet. I never had a liking for floors that were painted (other then ITV)

Graphics are pretty poor

Looks nice.

What I want is the old arrangement of the theme back - have they done that? When they brought in the red look they brought in a new arragement of the theme tune that sounds unrecognisable, and frankly, not great. Reverting to the original arrangement would have been a good step...
