The 5:40-6:00pm slot on RTE One seems odd, particularly the signed news, it almost spoils the day's news before the main news, so you already know the main stories before the news starts. I'm surprised they don't run that at 6:55 instead.

I don't think it's about "almost spoiling" the news - providing signed news is a public service which RTE should be proud of and not treat as an afterthought to the main news....

What is that time slot supposed to consist of as when I saw it seemed to start late, have all kinds of odds and sods and be very padded out with ad breaks. Also I'm guessing RTE still has a remit to do Irish language news despite TG4 existing?

Showing the feed from the autocue in the signed/subtitled bulletin is different, I haven't seen that before.

It's on at that time because of the commitment to Nuacht. They have to broadcast a bulletin in Irish at some point during the day and that's where it has ended up in recent years. Down thru the years the Main Irish Bulletin never stayed in one place or one station for more than a few years. I remember it on RTE 1 at about 10.20 for a while, It was on RTE2 at various times (8.00 was popular for a while) and once TG4 came on it's been on usually at some point between 5 and 6 on RTE 1.

Having said that it does well in the ratings and far better than Nuacht on TG4. Usually it's only second behind TV3 News at that time.

News for the Deaf used to be on after the main 6 O clock News for a very long time. When that format was used it felt very much like an after thought. Since it got it's slot right after Nuacht it feels like an effort is actually made.

To add to above the autocue has been the subtitles to the news for the deaf since the very start of the service.

RTE's Nine O'Clock News came from the "broom cupboard" set and started late tonight - didn't see the opening so not sure why.

Think there was a problem with the sound desk in the main studio.

They barely acknowledged that they were late starting even though they spent 10 minutes showing trailers

Also the news for the deaf made themselves look foolish by reporting the postal dispute as ongoing even though news of it's suspension had broken about 515pm

Sorry I'm not in a capturing position but for the first time in well over 10 years the weather graphics had had an overhaul.

Prime Time will be presenting a special programme tonight on last night's Terror Attacks in Paris.

I didn't know this before hand as I'm only watching a special edition of At your Service right now on RTE One HD.

I should be watching Despicable Me, Irish Lotto results, Winning Streak, RTE Main Evening News and then The Ray Darcy Show in that running order but it seems the events in Paris last night are being made a priority.

Yeah, Kevin Bathurst earlier on tweeted that there was going to be extended Six-One & Nine bulletins, plus a Prime Time Special. Seems they ripped up the schedule this morning.

The rain hitting Theresa Mannion is hitting her hard in Galway.

One would wonder why she's the one bearing the brunt of it, I thought Galway was Pat McGrath's patch.
