Changes on Six-One bulletin now - set is slightly different.

Wonder if a move to a temp. set while changes made to other one or if this is a slightly re-vamped set up?

Don't have means of posting caps

Closing shot was very close and fairly low compared to normal, some sort of divider in place between elements of the "screen", and seems to me like more light coming from the lower part behind the newsreaders.

Beaten to it!

Yes it would appear they have moved out of Studio 3. For what reason is anybody's guess. I would like to think that they are relaunching but given the fact that the current package is only 2 and a half years old, that would seem unlikely. Perhaps they are just carrying out major maintenance. But having said that I've never seen them move out of Studio 3 just for maintenance and the time of year is a bit strange. They did relaunch on 1st January 2000, so perhaps they are going to do so again on 1st January 2009. Its hard to know!

Looking at the floor at the end and the different camera shots of presentersAnthony and Clare on six-one today seems to
be coming from a different studio, most likely studio 5.
Well this would not be the first time that an RTE News set
had a 2.5 year cycle, the last one was the news set of
Sept 1997 (when Bryan and Una begin anchoring Six-One) to
Dec 1999.
I'd say it could be a news studio set that is one the way. I just remember
from the beginning of December when a reporter was conducting
an interview within the RTE newsroom, there seem
to be changes taking place. The whole lefthandside of the newsroom
was section-off with what looked like white plasterboard. Maybe and
this might been a big maybe, perhaps the new set will use the
newsroom as a backdrop!!

I noticed too. It seems as if the backdrop is broken into 3 different segments, and lit from behind. I think that might be known as a "duratran". I hope it's a new set, the current one is quite an improvement over the previous set, but it is not very good either. It's irionic, isn't it, that the presumably "temporary" set looks better than the "permanent" version.

Yet again RTE News' temp set looks better then the actual set.
I suppose they might want to revamp due to the pending launch of RTE International and and full lauch of RTE News Now.

It would be nice if RTE News does get a new look, something a little brighter and less coffee like!

It doesn't matter how often RTE changes the set or the graphics they are still lumbered with appalling on-screen journalists with a reporting style straight out of the 1980's.
With the possible exception of their Economics Editor George Lee and crime correspondent Paul Reynolds who both clearly now their stuff the rest are leaden and dull.
Pieces to camera are ALWAYS just a head and shoulders shot, there's never any light and shade in their packages and sound edits seem to be done with a blunt razor blade.
And they still use establishing shots of interviewees walking past the camera which I haven't seen on the BBC or ITV news for 10 years.
The style of news is as outdated and whiskery as some of their female newsreaders.... surely they must have gleaned something from a decade of Sky News or are they still convinced the majority of their viewers watch them wearing muddy wellingtons while having their tea ?

You've hit the nail on the head there! RTÉ International's launch has been postponed indefinately due to financial restraints. It would be great if they did incorporate the newsroom into the set à la BBC News 24 from 2003 onwards. A glass backing like what they have on BBC World News would be very nice - and even if it is perhaps a bit dated now and a blatent rip-off of the BBC, it would be better than what they have now. Having said that, this set stood up to the test of time very well though - aside from a few of those white light panels giving trouble, the set always remained consistent unlike the previous cream one which was filthy by the time it was only 18 months old.

I imagine as polo23 said, they are in Studio 5 as the afternoon show has finished until the new year. The black floor and much colder lighting is the dead giveaway. But the set really does look good for a temporary - I much perfer the curved light panels. The only thing wrong with it is that the colour is a bit washed out. It will be fascinating to see what they have done with Studio 3 in a couple of weeks...

There's something afoot alright. It's sad that RTE think that we wouldn't notice if two glaringly obvious joints between the three panels were on screen in the closing shot. And to make matters worse, they've tried to re-created the glass struts bolts by using a radial gradient on a circle printed on the screen! Have a look to the right of the main anchor in the closing shot - it looks like a badly drawn Christmas bauble!

It does seem strange to reorganize this late in the year. Although its somewhat coinciding with the new year, Charlie Bird moving to US in the place of Robert Shortt, and probably RTE's financial year too. I hope they replace the anchors too. Dobbo is doing it too long now and seems to bring down the sense of fun that the likes of Eamonn Horan brings for example. Sharon's blunt and groany voice also needs some attention. No reason why the news can't be fun.

I for one like the general format of the news. I would like to see less sporting emphasis and more business emphasis, particularly given what's going on. And a new Business anchor, replacing the inept David 'D4' Murphy who it seems hasn't a clue what he's talking about (ask any business person what they think of his reports!)

The coffee colour never did anything for me personally. It wouldn't look amiss on Channel 5 News with anchorman Ron Burgandy in the late 70s. But today the primary colours are most important. Something with the RTE blue and green again would be nice. And the opening sequence has to have some realism in it. The likes of Oireachtas Report or TWIP has a nicer edge to it than whatever child did the current titles.

AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GIVE US A TICKER!!!

That's my two cents! Very Happy

Just to add - the week in politics is on RTÉ One at the moment and the back wall appears to be simply 3 full-length big backdrops side by side - there's no real light panels at all - they're part of the fake backdrop hence why they're unlit. I wonder is the backdrop for news bulletins completely fake with no real light panels at all? How do they light up the fake panels so well?

i think RTE's weekend news should be extended to one hour, especially since TV3 won't be providing a full weekend service for at least a few months.

Is it possible for someone to get some caps of this somehow? I had been watching RTE News Now, but the stream seems currently unreliable.
