The RTÉ Guide for next week still has the One O'Clock News at 15 minutes.

On the E-Tenders website; RTÉ News & Current Affairs are going to link up with all of their radio offices with video links back to Dublin.

They have documents here which state that the new look should be completed by early January.

Why wasn't Studio 1 mentioned in the invitation to tender document? They mention nearly all other studios at RTE not Studio 1, I wonder why?

I don't know why that is the case.

Apparently it is because of the refurbishment of Studio 3. The Six-One and Nine O'Clock News, along with the main weekend news is done from Studio 2, whilst the One O'Clock News and shorter weekend summaries are done from the small one camera presentation studio, which is why the One O'Clock News is presented in a reduced "summer schedule" format until the relaunch of RTE News which is due later this month.

Today is Damien Tiernan’s last day as South East Correspondent on air with RTÉ.

Meanwhile RTÉ have announced the appointment of Sinéad Hussey as North East Correspondent.

This role has not been filled for a number of years following the departure of Richard Dowling to become head of RTE’s political unit at Leinster House. This unit is now headed by former Business Editor David Murphy. Richard is currently the FOI Officer at RTE

The RTE One O'Clock News returns to its usual half hour format from Monday 21st January 2019, so maybe this is an indicator that Monday 21st January 2019 will be the day RTE News unveils its new look and the newly refurbished Studio 3?

Or they could do a weekend relaunch like their last refresh in 2014? Either way it's good that everything will back to normal from that week.

I am looking forward to seeing what the new overhaul will be like. A smaller news desk area and a new larger secondary presentation area will be part of the new set in Studio 3.

In addition to that I imagine a switch to LED Walls over Barcos will allow them to utilize a little bit more studio space than the previous set allowed?

Yes, you might be write, as Studio 3 is small and they want to make the most of the space they have. I was told by someone at RTE the studio is around 1,300 Sq Ft in space. Not much room.

RTE One had adjusted their schedules and have now changed the One O'Clock News to continue in the 15 minute format from Monday onward. Originally the 30 minute was to return on Monday 21st January 2019 according to their schedules, but they have now decided to keep the 15 minute bulletin for the rest of next week.

Maybe this means the work in Studio 3 is taking a bit longer than expected? The new look now looks likely to be Monday 28th January 2019. If I hear anything back from RTE I will post it on here.

RTE have just clarified to me about the relaunch of RTE News:

"The launch of the new studio will be in late January 2019. The change in the duration of the One O’Clock News is not an indication, and we can confirm it will not be Monday 21st ... The announcement of an on-air date will be based on final operational and technical considerations."

So, hopefully this settles speculation a bit?

A good sign really as we're almost halfway through January. Blimey, it's going too quick!

"Late January" as they say is coming close, so we are not far off from the new look. Not long to wait.

Well, I reckon they'll keep the blue. Or they'll maybe ditch it in favour of a more "serious" colour
