Is it me, or have they tweaked the backdrop to include more violet, darker colours? Also, since when has the News DOG been transparent?

It was outrageously transparent on Nuacht yesterday:

It's always been slightly transparent but the other day on Nuacht you could see right through it. It was kind of hard to make out the logo, and now it's back to normal.

So how are you enjoying the new idents (seamus : "we all doubt you") ?

I've never been a fan of "part of life" presentation, but I have to say that generally, I like the new package. Some of the idents are quite nice - I particularly like the 'Lights' one. Oisín Lunny's contribution was very enjoyable. The Programme Menu looks well I think.

Some of the idents are really bad though. As much as eating is indeed a part of life, I can't understand why someone would want to go and make an ident out of it. It's not all that attractive!

But having said that... the house they used looks rather well, don't you think? Very Happy

A quite exotic RTE News with Signing (on December 7th) - without signing! A rare occasion to see Siun Nic Gearailt presenting the news as Bearla Smile. Shouldn't the title be just "RTE News" or "RTE News: Headlines"? Also the closing screen was unusual with its "Read by" caption.

Here is the bulletin (1:56)

Unusual indeed! Also out of the ordinary was the closing shot on last night's Six-One (Scroll to 52:17). It may have been used before, but I don't recall ever seeing it.

Are they replacing signing with this?

Yes they do, but mainly on holidays.

BTW: Someone has mentioned some time ago that Siun would not be a good newscaster in the English language bulletins. Why? She looks so friendly and natural as in the Nuacht and Cinnlinte Nuachta Smile

I believe it was me that mentioned she wouldn't be great as an english-speaking presenter. Its to do with her accent and pronunciation. She has very very good Irish and very poor verbal english.

Poor English you say? I'm not a native speaker so I won't discuss this issue. The other thing which really interests me - what is the level of Irish of other RTE newscasters except Aengus and Sharon? (apart from the Irish language news) On some special occasions like Nollaig or Fheile Padraig it's good to hear some Irish, for instance in Six One...

Some more weather mess-ups to bring you:
Saturday December 16th: 9:20 bulletin. Scroll to 17:54. Do not adjust your monitor!

And the traditional weather error, from Sunday evening. Scroll to 1:53.

By the way sstepski, for someone who isn't a native speaker of English or Irish, you're doing very well on both. Fair play! Very Happy

Christmas idents have started airing on RTÉ and TV3. Any thoughts?

That second one is a real feckup - I thought that Gerald is always speeding through all of the maps don't giving a chance to have a closer look what's going on them. Seems it's too slow anyway. Very Happy

PS Milktrolley - Cead mile maith agat (heard a mix like that some time ago on Nuacht RTE, hope I've remembered it properly)
