Saw this one over on Boards - it's from last Friday (Sept 29) on Radio 1. Ronan Collins leaves his mic on during the song "Big John". At least one swear word in there, some say they can hear two. But be quick! This file will very soon be replaced by the new Friday edition.

Or you could try this one. It should stay online for a good while longer. Similarly, scroll to 36:20

From the Irish Independent, on a dry run of Seoige and O'Shea:
Quote:
For all her expertise, Seoige was also thrown a couple of times. On both occasions it was when a planned live telephone call from a 'listener' failed to be put to the studio. There was some hesitation before she acknowledged the failure and picked up the rhythm of the show

One hopes we're not going to have another hour a day that becomes a technical mess. Of course, this could have been done deliberately just to prepare the presenters - hopefully that was the case.

I think the show will be much like Richard and Judy. Hopefully it will because there's a gap in RTE's shedules for that kind of show. Seoige should be very good. I admit I'd still prefer to see her on the 6.01 with Bryan but we can always hope!

I haven't really had much time to watch the news lately - is it still full of cock-ups?

She'd be good on Six-One, but I'm looking forward to seeing her as her good old natural self. I always enjoyed her appearances on The Panel (although she was also a welcome relief guests like Geri Maye) so I expect only good things. Joe O'Shea seemed quite good from what I saw on the Late Late, although I'm yet to see extraordinary evidence of this chemistry everyone speaks of. While I'm being positive... great Tubridy Tonight just there, as usual. Very Happy

But getting back on-topic:
A quick note on the DOG on tonight's nine. It was visible during the headline package, mistakenly it seems, then removed mid-way through the titles only for it to return seven seconds later with the WS of the studio. The mistake, if you want to call it that, wasn't a big deal. But why highlight it by needlessly removing it for such a short space of time? It didn't look overly out of place or anything - indeed I was only distracted by it when it was faded off.

Had a quick look at the rest of the bulletin online, didn't appear to be anything wrong. Although an example of not writing to pictures can be seen here at 0:26, from last night's bulletin. As Tommie Gorman refers to "the Protestant community", the report cuts to a shot of a man with a dog.

It's something I've been looking out for since joining the forums, because I never quite noticed this before. It's probably not the best example, and it's hardly something that will cause a furore, but a better arrangement could have made nonetheless.

On such a report, how exactly do you intend to show "the Protestant community". Throw in a random shot of the Shankill road?

If you put in any people, you may cause more offence, incase they aren't protestant, which in any reason is why a generic shot would have been used.

You don't have to use a shot of anyone. A wide shot of the marching could have been used.

That was more or less what I said when I used the terms "generic shot"

Yes, but a dog was hardly the best generic shot to use. There were plenty of others that could have been included.

Has anyone noticed that the "poor quality of sound in that report" has been replaced by lack of sound?

It's like the two sound pieces have been mixed up. When a reporter is doing a voiceover during a report, eg over footage of a meeting, the background noise in the room is turned right up and the reporter is turned right down.

It was worst during the report about the Korean nuclear thing tonight. The Korean newscaster's voice was distracting enough as it was, but it was much louder than the RTE reporter's commentary. They went back to the report 3 times during Six One before they got it right.

Didn't see Six-One last night, but... sigh.

The bulletin's here.

The failed attempt for that report is at 4:30. It's played out as it should have been at 22:15

Furthermore, there were big aspect ratio problems with the link to David Davin-Power at Leinster House. The split screen at 10:09 really shows up how ridiculous it looked.

"Protestant community" does not equal marching and to suggest otherwise would show a serious lack of judgement.
