Quite strange for a news presenter to be RTE's anchor for perhaps the greatest sports event held in the island of Ireland - is there nobody of importance and stature in the Sports department?
If it was here in the UK, it would most likely be Lineker at the helm.
Wonder if SnB's presenting talents are going out worldwide...
Its very strange alright isn't it? It would be like Natasha Kaplinsky hosting the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympics...strange when you think about it! I have a suspicion that her fluency in Irish was the reason for her selection though. She used it a good few times throughout the afternoon. She did a good job it has to be said - very confident and fairly relaxed considering that it was being broadcast all over the world and to a supposed audience of hundreds of millions. She was inclined to be a bit shouty and over-emphatic (just like when reading the news really!). The ceremony itself went well and the camerawork (presumably being done by RTÉ) was only OK - it lacked any 'wow' factor and at times left a lot to be desired but it could have been worse. Hopefully the weather won't disrupt things too much!

Is Sharon presenting the actual highlights coverage on RTE Two? Or is she just Master of Ceremonies?
I ask because the closing ceremony is currently clashing with the start of the RTE highlights show - and because I cant watch it on Sky Digital here in NI!

Just the MC. Bill O'Herlihy's fronted RTÉ's coverage. Bob Bubka, Tony Jacklin, Graeme McDowell and Des Smyth joined him in studio, while Ronan Collins, Ray Houghton, and Marty Morrissey were on the field filing reports.
Yes that is almost certainly a mistake - you don't often see 27 degrees in Ireland - nevermind at the end of September!
I see they're using a white circular-type transition between the headlines in the summaries and coming-up VTs - very nice. I haven't noticed it before but they've probably used it from the start.
And we got a look at the new "The Week in Politics" layout which comes from the news studio as well. The white panel lights above and below the canvas have changed to red and there's a kind of daft curtain hung all around the canvas - not necessary IMO and it looks like the show is coming from someone's bedroom. Its far too room-like and dated looking. If they got rid of the curtains, it wouldn't look as bad! Sorry I have no caps but I'll try to get some next week.

I thought she was only presenting the Golf coverage not Gaelic games
I wasn't trying to disparage, or demote, the status of GAA in that remark... on a global scale, I would consider a greater audience would see coverage of the Ryder Cup at the K Club than any GAA match.
Have you seen that the weather forecast disappeared from the end of Nuacht RTE? It's sad - I think the Irish language bulletins should be expanded and made more attractive when the number of everyday Irish speakers is falling down, not shortened...
