Absolutely - what a disaster. And needless to say you could hear the director's every word instructing Bryan Rolling Eyes

The first VT was freezed for a whopping 50 seconds! It didn't seem that long at the time, but that's incredible. It does suggest that they're on server playout now, given they could do absolutely nothing until they got the problem fixed. The first VT freezed for so long I thought they'd cut back to Bryan to go to a break it was that serious, but they did get it working again.

Also, another report's audio very oddly kicked underneath the freezed VT 1! How on earth could that happen? Unless perhaps they were preparing to go with VT 2 instead and its audio was put live in error.
All in all, what a mess, added to by the mucked up headlines.

Needless to say the headlines have been cut out of the online version, but you can still see VT 1. If anyone knows Realplayer code, perahps they could give us a link back to the start...

Will be interesting to see whether or not tonight's late bulletin on RTE One comes from the main studio.

Download the smil file and open it in a text editor and at the last few lines is the start and end time, just change the start to 00:00:00:00.

Double click and it'll open in real player and there you go, even getting the few ads before hand.

Interestingly, that 'Hey Driver' campaign was created in England last year for their Road Safety councils. It aired on Sky and is pretty cheesy to be honest.

Interesting part is how the Irish Road Safety Authority (only in existance a few weeks) bought the advert and branded it their own with their logo, and made no attempt to change the children's voices or accents! It's unusual because any advertisment for public service announcements that are made in Ireland or the UK (including Northern Ireland) have the voices changed to match regionality.

I too agree that the Angelus is disgusting in this day in age. It has no purpose on a national television station and certainly not before the main news programme airs. It's horridly 'politically correct' in its filming, and has no relevance in today's societies. It's ironic that it was RTE who first publicly investigated the sexual allegations within the Catholic and Protestant churches in Ireland, and they still show a clearly christian mundane ******* of the Angelus to all of Ireland before the load up the news service.

By the way, I have to note that Eileen Dunne is looking absolutely wonderful lately! Great make-up artist in there at the moment but the lighting is almost perfect too. I do find however that for John Finnerty the last night, the lighting was too harsh on him coming down on his forehead as opposed to his crown. Siún Nic Gearailt too has had some harsh lighting in the past week. Good job she's cute! Smile

Actually, that RSA was created in Belfast and funded by a joint initiative so it was distributed with others.

One amusing thing is how the cars are blurred in the end shot, and the reason? because they coudln't get permission to close the entire road off so had to blur them out and film generically in public so had to avoid identifying them.

RTÉ HAS warned that the Government must move ahead quickly with new broadcasting legislation - otherwise international competitors could get "an unassailable foothold" in the Irish market.

In its five-year corporate plan, RTÉ states that even a 12-month delay in bringing forward legislation could have serious consequences for the broadcaster.

RTÉ outlines plans to expand its online business, build on the RTÉ brand and address technological challenges such as digital radio.

Developments outlined in the document include a new TV breakfast news programme to be introduced next year and the launch of four RTÉ Guide-related magazines.

Legislation

In the plan which was presented to the Department of Communications earlier this year, RTÉ says that delays in - or lack of - legislation are inhibiting new business growth.

The broadcaster says that its plan necessitates legislative action which needs to be "addressed in a timely fashion".

Among the legislation which will shape RTÉ's future is the Broadcasting Bill, which is due to be published later this year. It has been expected for several years, and will establish a new body to take over from the RTÉ Authority.

"The broadcasting environment is moving so quickly that even a 12-month delay by Government could mean the difference between an initiative for Irish broadcasting suggested by RTÉ succeeding, versus international competition securing an unassailable foothold in that particular area," states the plan.

The Broadcasting Bill is expected allow licence fee income to be used to develop RTÉ's online business, as this is restricted under current legislation.

The possibility of establishing a new online division in RTÉ, known as an independent business division (IBD), to spearhead the development of online services is raised.

The document, released under the Freedom of Information Act, addresses some of RTÉ's "weaknesses", including high labour costs, the perception that RTÉ remains inefficient and the high level of licence fee evasion.

It also wants a commercial licence fee, which would mean that hotels and other premises would be charged on a sliding scale depending on the number of TV sets on the premises

Finally! Breakfast TV!

I'd be interested to see how this new Breakfast show competes with TV3. I always find it amusing they call themselves the "most watched breakfast show in Ireland" when they were... the only one.

When I worked there even the staff were amused at that one!

CBS News have relaunched with Katie "Hi Everyone" Couric.

A different league compared to RTÉ's underwhelming effort.

You can watch it on their website - even their video quailty is better than RTÉ.
