I don't know anything about Eileen at all. But the lines are still on the picture windows afterall - it doesn't bother me that much - its the fact that there's a huge gap between the reader and the window that bothers me! Sharon was framed badly on the 6.01 with her arm right up against the left side of the TV - and thats in 14:9L. There was a massive gap between her other arm and the inset.

During the 1 there was no lines and it looked nice ans smooth, and blended in great. I'm really warming up to the new look, except for the titles and music. DO you mind if I also use caps of the 1 O'clock and Six One also to illustrate the articles? I already have one for the nine.

For God's sake, why bother if you can't manage to do it yourself? Why start an article on someone you know nothing about? Why bother uploading pictures if you have to continually ask for permission?

RTÉ's set is fairly bizarre from where I am. I just can't get my head around it. Not too bad I suppose, but that shot of the side screen in particular made me laugh a bit - it's like someone standing in front of those mobile dividing screens you have in offices. Somebody has blu-tacked an RTÉ Sport sign on to it. The colours are fairly bizarre too.

Uh, the whole point of Wikipedia is to work as a community to provide information to others.

But you are missing the excellent point DAS is making.

Why bother when you do not have all the information ready at hand to provide.

Well nobody had created an article, so I thought that people who did know would edit the article. It's better to have a meager stub, than nothing at all. At least I have a picture. SOmebody else, who I don't know, already added more in, so I think in a few days it would be a good article. I don't want to get off topic, so lets'd get back on track.

Edit:
Aargh! The nine online was in squishyvision!!!!

One of the rules of wikipedia is that you have to have the permission of the photographer or in this case the creator of a picture to use it .

You can't just nick even screencaps off a private website and use them without permission and showing you have permission

I know, thanks. The point I'm making is that Wikipedia is designed for people to share their knowledge. There's no point starting a topic for the sake of it if you have nothing to put in that topic. Nor is there any point in adding pictures when, er, you don't have the pictures.

I've started a topic on styles of Yorkshire dry stone walls but don't know anything about it. Can anyone help? And can I use everyone else's images seeing as I don't have any but have a desire to add some images even though I'm not too sure how to anyway.

Now I may be wrong with this so correct me if I am but after a bit of 'examination' of the background this evening, I think that is actually a 13m LED screen going all around the studio afterall. During the News on Two, there was a large navy blue blob over Anthony's shoulder and that definately isn't there on the Nine, Six One or the One. The whole background itself during N on 2 is certainly a much darker colour than that of the One. The One seems to be orange but the N on 2 is a dark brown - the set gets darker throughout the day. There's no way that they're just pulling out perspex sheets between each bulletin and replacing them with darker ones - it has to be the LED wall that was tendered a few months ago. It looks to be 13m long alright when you look at the wides of the studio. It looks very much like a textured sheet of plastic or something though, doesn't it?

Then that raises Question 1 - why isn't the background animated? I think a very slow and discreet animated background would look fantastic with all those colours moving around the place. Perhaps they're just finding their legs with it and they may well introduce something a bit more exciting a little later on. And Question 2 - why can't they integrate the live-link ups into the LED background like the BBC nationals? Perhaps they are using the LED for the sole purpose of creating a background (which would be a great shame) so hence they have installed a plasma in the secret corner...

Does that sound like a load of waffle to you all? Smile

I agree, a subtle billowy animation would be nice and elegant.

Edit:
Twas over at ICDG and fond this post:

I went to the auditions for the new RTE idents due at the start of september. They were done by RedBee in An Spideal. If the auditions are anything to go by, the new idents will be scenes including a seamstress working at a dress, a man greeting a friend in the pub, a hill walker washing his face in a stream, a cave explorer emerging into a cavern amongst others. God, those auditions were embarrassing.

Much as I'd like to believe this...

...during the One O'Clock News yesterday, when Aengus had a guest in studio, you could see someone moving about behind the backdrop. So, I don't believe it's a video wall.

If this is clever glass, I fear the only real use they're going to make of it, is for the likes of 'The Week In Politics'. If the background can be changed, it's very silly having all their news programmes look the same. I too thought there were some slight adjustments during the day. But, if the changes are not obvious, what's the point??

I really have to ask: where is Anne Doyle? Is she going the direction of Una O'Hagen (gradually bowing out), or is she going to be back later in the week?

Also, when is RTE updating their ident sets? They are still using the old ones, from what I saw at the 9PM news today (I caught a frame of it on the webstream)
