Hilarious Telefis! Now - no wonder the set looked so small today - there's an extra corner to the left of the main desk that they only showed tonight in the News on Two - it seems to have a plasma but it may be actually a CSO graphic like the earlier ones we saw. I think it is a real plasma though: (apologies about the quality and the 14:9ness but it caught me on the hop!)

It needs to be better lit - it seems very dull but that should easily be sorted out!

And there was a lovely dimming of the lights after the bulletin as well - with lovely blue lights like as if "we're closing down for the night now!":

Haven't seen that on RTÉ News in a long time! I think the lights in the desk even dimmed down!

yeah you get a real sense RTE is just taking it one step at a time with this set & package...

have to admit that Dunne was brilliant tonight on 9... all the camera shots were perfectly squared up, no hideous massive ugly appauling useless waste-of space laptop in her shots either. she looked the part and the bulletin was the better for it.

even compare the title graphics from the three main shows today... One was wierd, Six was a little longer and wierder, but Nine was very slow and looked like it was going somewhere...

I have a theory about that DOG too... because it's so low down, and the Corr graphic straps appear above it, RTE may be laying the test bed for a ticker next week! obviously it'd make no sense introducing it now what with the massive headache today must've been for them, but a ticker fits in there perfectly, and wouldn't intrude in the studio shots!!

I also figured out why the desk is at such a messed up angle... it's so the presenter doesn't have a harsh side-turn to look at the LVO screen! Makes perfect sense as the left camera would have a horrid image if the desk was centered. Obviously the set is up against the right-hand wall in the studio, so cameras come in from the left (as you're looking at the set) so turning the desk makes it easier for the pan shots and the multiple camera shots.

but the titles are still meaningless. someone mentioned star trek earlier, and the brown is almost identical to the scene from the ST film 'Insurrection' in the nebula called 'The Briar Patch'. But the brown has to come to life sometime... even CSO would improve it with some animation... it's too static.

the music is terrible though... the worst part of the whole operation... i occasionally play back the 1999 music on the laptop to get the sense of pride back into me, and it's a crying shame they didn't stick with something similar... the current music is just bland, nondescript and lacking in everything that news stations emphasise on the intro.

lighting was excellent though, greatly improved. never saw Eileen looking so well on-screen before and the shots of her included her hands aswell, something i think is excellent for presentation (makes the presenter more human for some reason).

I missed the news on two so i'm disappointed not to see the secret plasma, but i'm sure it'll all be better next week. I was right though - they're testing everything this week. keep your eye out for a ticker!!

But surely it would be more useful to center the desk and then to have the presenter sit in exactly the same place in the studio, just a little bit further along the desk?

Does anybody mind if I upload photos of your caps on wikipedia. I mean the shot where you can see the desk. I would upload photos for each builiten.

One of today's inserts featured a shot where the reporter was only visible from the nose down.

Why are they zooming to 16F16? Why not use 14P16?

Last night I was really annoyed with the squishyvision News feed online, so I emailed them, and now it's in 16:9.

EDit:
Was just watching the one, and is it me, or did they take those stupid lines off the inset graphics. Looks great now.

shame you didn't tell them to read this thread and see what they could get out of it, as opposed to sitting in the boardroom looking at ITV, BBC and Channel 4 for inspiration!

One seems to be in Aengus' hands now... he was shuffling papers again during an LVO to the US. Disgraceful.

That bloody title sequence is still making no sense. I dunno. Maybe I'll just buy the newspaper and stay one day behind... or just keep reading BreakingNews.ie.

I also asked them what the titles are supposed to represent. They havn't replied.

Whose caps do you want to use séamus? There's no point using mine because they're on the TV Forum server and they'll be gone in 30 days! I didn't catch the One today so I'm waiting until the 6.01 to see have they done anything today. Hopefully the lines will be gone from the picture windows. Good to see the webstream in 16:9 too. That was one of my biggest worries about going widescreen - having to put up with squishy-vision webstreams for years to come! I am warming to the new package - I like the set now (disappointed that we don't have a videowall but what can you do) but those titles are the one thing that let it down...a real shame. Although they are completely irrelevant to a news programme, you have to admit that they are actually well made - there's a lot of detail in them and glossy surfaces with reflections etc. which makes them look like a bit of effort went into them but thats all thats good about them.

i'm not even sure if they'd know themselves!! probably all went pear-shaped when it was rendered!! that would explain the pear shape in the middle of it!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

PHen, on wikipedia you host the image at wikipedia, so that doesn't matter.

I would like to use these three if you don't mind. I just created an article on Eileen Dunne, and I don't know much about her, so can I ask you guys for help?
