it's hideous!!!

Rushed home lunchtime to catch it and it's absolutely foul... so many things wrong with it:

The WideScreen aspect isn't there
The graphic DOG isn't 16:9 safe
The graphics package is appauling for on-screen presentation
No 'Live' DOG
Laptop is WAYYYY too massive in the presenter shot
Aengus MacGrianna made a complete hash of everything (including his paper shuffling during David 'D4' Murphy's in-studio speak)
Aengus forgot that today was Monday (and not Wednesday like he said)
The weather graphics are still on the old package

And the wide shot is like the TG4 news desk!!! I swear it's almost exactly the same idea.

The 'news-wall' thing is a complete waste of our energy talking about stand-up shots.. it's just a back drop (colour changing or not)

The music is harsh and unwelcoming. The audio throughout the WHOLE broadcast was like someone put the treble to the last and dropped the bass

The in-studio 'chat' with David 'D4' Murphy was brutally lit.

The 'special-report' from Guatemala had a terrible end shot of the correspondant with her cleavage featuring more than her forehead!

It's abysmal!!! I swear to God Red Bee are puking all morning... It clearly wasn't their design (hence the early launch) and it'll look completely cack now next week when put against the new Idents.

Appauling!

So you didn't like it then? Sad

is it worse than the old set?

EDIT:
the one news is now posted on the rte website.

Edit:
The titles are so random! But i do like the backdrop, but that's about it, also the inset is nice.

And why are you defending Red Bee saying it clearly wasn't their design? Have you seen some of RedBee's work?!!! They've just redesigned BBC London. It is the worst re-working of the BBC News theme I've ever witnessed in my life - so please don't defend RedBee.

Red Bee in all fairness could do so much better than the utter cack we were just treated to... In fairness, Red Bee mightn't be the hottest of designers, but RTE's in-house team (if they are responsible!) must be looking for inspiration from Iraqi television or something... talk about a static set!! it looks great but it's soooooo boring.

maybe i need some time to cool off...

maybe it was all aengus' fault....

maybe, just maybe, it was a bad dream....

Well I'm sure it would have had that under the old titles as well so it's a bit misplaced as a critque of the new tiles

Especially with that curved desk I got the impression it was Red Bee ideas

My review - the set is FAR too small. It looks and feels cramped and cheap.

The music is far, far, far too weak.

The programme doesn't flow very well.

Compare it to STV News which is only supposedly a regional news programme and I have to say STV wins with punchier music, a much larger set, more confident presenters and more flexibility in the set.

Sort it out RTE.

They don't need a broom cupboard - looks like they've turned the main studio into just that!

EDIT: Why is the desk stupidly off-centre? If they put it in the middle, the one-shot might look a little better.
