Well, what is intolerable about agreeing with the comment of "only RTE". I think I should be able to agree, and that is the most basic of things to do.

Why is a fight being brought into this thread.

Thank you. I was just agreeing about the fact that it is ironic that the set looks better in the temp set than the permenant one.

No seamus I think he meant that everything about RTÉ is usually discussed here so he's suggesting that we keep RTÉ (and other Irish stations as well) related topics here. This thread really is sufficient because it usually goes for days on end without being updated but I imagine it will be quite busy for the next few months but after the dust settles, it will quieten down again. You can try setting up a general RTÉ thread in TVHF but I don't imagine that it will catch on too well - there simply aren't enough people here who are interested in RTÉ! I suppose when the news and new idents launch would be the best time to launch a new general thread. So perhaps we should try setting one up around then.

I noticed tonight they improved the studio quite a bit
The back lightening on the backdrop has brightened, after last night being very dull

Reading some of the things said in this, people seem to be unsure if this is a relaunch or not...Its quite confusing.
Hopefully they will change it, and for once step into the future and decide to make the most out of screens and lights, unlike the awful set we have today!
And most of all, they decide to make the most of the set [ie. if there is a large plasma screen in the studio, they should use it!!]

So when should we be expecting the set and idents? I'm sure it will be before the DTT Trials, but that would be very unlike RTÉ seeing as they always relaunch in September.

RTE News hasn't always relaunched in September, the previous look came in Janurary 2000.
And News 2 was relaunched in Janurary 2001 (before reverting to RTE News on Two in September 2003)

I was refering to the Idents. I am a fan of the current idents, but before they were re-edited. I liked the old-new theme. My favorite is the one with the nelson pillar morphing into the spire.

is it just me or are the graphics sets for the 'temporary news' set in a squashed 16:9?? I dont remember so much left space on the screen before... have a gawk at the news from RTE on Realplayer and you'll see what I mean?

If this is the case, I wonder why they're bothering altering the graphics bed so late before a re-launch? are they just testing the crew on a wider aspect before DTT trails? or will these sets be going out for DTT trials shortly? this would make sense if they're not going to have the new News ready before the DTT trials, in which case we'll have at least 4 weeks of 'temp-news'.

on the one today, very tight ship as per usual with Finnerty, but in fairness, the shabbyness is already protruding as at the end of the bulletin you can see the radio mic for presenter number 2 just thrown over the chair to John's left... not good. the chair should be completely removed on the 1 if there's only going to be one presenter on it, that or dont use the wide angle (probably not an option now the temp set is fixed.
