I was back home for 10 days, (thats why I haven't been here on the forum), and have seen the RTE news before-hand, but not actually through a tv, and have realised how appaling it really is. I'm also surprised about TV3 News look. It looks like the old ITV look meets American Graphics, but I like the new idents and logo tweak thing.

Another update on TG4's widesceen preparations: the TG4 DOG is now appearing in the 16:9 position on 14:9L broadcasts and thankfully its perfectly 4:3 safe unlike TV3 Evil or Very Mad :

And I was mistaken about their idents/stings: they're not in 16:9 at all - they've just added the black pillars on either side and it doesn't look that good at all so hopefullly they'll relaunch in September with a less gloomy package!

I didn't really get the idents, or breakbumper, whatever they were, with the revolving guy in the helmet.

Most of TG4's ident are pretty pointless. Toy cars falling off a board, a surge of water coming out of a garage, Mexican wrestlers... They are smart, but very pointless. It was at least better than the ident set that was used before it.

They should change that background music (that Celtic-sounding music sting) that comes with the idents. It is a bit gloomy.

Speaking of TG4, from what I have see, I believe it is worse to be a TG4 news presenter than a RTE news presenter. TG4's three main news anchors (at least Eimear Ní Chonaola and Ailbhe Ó Monacháin) have to do field reporting, something that news presenters generally do not do.

What do you guys think?

Are TG4 still using only the pool table ident? On the last occasions I've been back home that was the only ident they appeared to use.

I always seem to see the acrobat, cars moving, or water coming through idents. I assume the TG4 idents try to show "Suil eile" - different eye, a different way of looking at things. Personally preferred the purple/ green ident era but I seem to swim against the tide on that opinion.

Also, why doesn't the ROI have DDT? And if it launches, would there be RTE 3, tv3 2. It would be akward for tv3 three

They can always rename it to say TV3 [insert genre name here], instead of TV3 Three.

The purple-green idents were overly simple and cheap. I did not like it at all. The current idents are better, but still pointless. I think the idents used during the channel's launch was good for its time.

Good point.

Does anyone happen to have caps of TV3's presentation caps? Although they were posted before in past, I kinda forgotten what they look like.

Thanks

I don't but they are very pastel and retro. Also, I previously liked Itv 1's idents but after seeing them n real tv, they are terrible.
