There's a new font, new idents (going on the basis of three, third time lucky/unlucky kind of thing), news I think is staying the same since it wasn't long since it last changed. Idents titled car, bubblegum, golf, lake and toast to name a few.

In programme promos are now going to come in and now designed to handle ITV credits better.

They spring in whilst the circles come out from the centre of the tv3 circle.

A new tune is in that's slightly electronic sounding and plinky plonky but quite nice too.

Liking the new TV3 look... manages to be retro and modern at the same time, almost as creative as the RTE TWO presentation package.

the idents themselves are nice, but one looks very familiar...

You'll see what I mean in a few weeks...

Things are still being tweaked no doubt, I don't think anyones realised a few of the stings are not 4:3 safe!

Indeed - though perhaps the pink one is just a demo. Where did you get hold of them can I ask?

Yes the TV3 relaunch has been the worst kept secret since Ireland's entry to the Eurovision. Looks very like Ch4 1990s alright. Very fresh and youthful too - quite daring when you consider they've only the single channel to be pitching: they've no Establishment channel as it were to reign the station's identity in a bit.

It's something of a departure from convention, as their previous looks, while modern, have nonetheless been quite mainstream rather than specifically youth-oriented, so they're now clearly intent on refining the audience of the station to its core subjects - 15-34 year olds.

They came from a very legitimate source, someone who worked on it actually lol

It's just green blue and pink - that's it.

Well its about time they went widecreen - ever since RTÉ beat them to it they've been dragging they're feet about it. The new look is very nice indeed but maybe a bit bland. Its very Sky One! I wonder will they're news go out in 16:9 as well?

PS: its great to have an insider here with us - thanks for all the info peter!

I've got nothing to do with it whatsoever, thank a colleague of mine who works down for the company involved in the rebrand!

Sorry to interrupt the TV3 conversation, but probably worth noting that Bryan Dobson has been brought in to anchor coverage of today's events in Dublin.

There was an extended update at 4.20pm (with Nuacht), and there will be an extended Six One.

And as always handled superbly by him. Though the fact that RTÉ really only has a single newscaster capable of handling such a situation is as about as embarrassing as the Dublin riots themselves.

And credit where it is due, not only are the Gardaí to be commended for their efforts, but also the camera people who put themselves in harm's way to bring us the pictures we saw, and many of whom were specifically targeted in the events.

As usual though Charlie Bird became more of a story than the events he was reporting on - sensationally dragged onto set for the Six One like some sort of journo demi-god, in his 'on-location' crappy old clothes and blood on his collar. Get a life RTÉ.

Overall very well-handled. Pretty much no in-vision polictical reaction which was surprising. Presumably there'll be a flood of it tomorrow.

I'm not sure any of the Irish broadcasters handled the riots properly - the extended Six-One was worthwhile alright, but this was a big breaking story in Dublin and the only broadcaster that seemed to be covering it live was ILR station Newstalk 106, who had continous coverage (they still refered to the programme as the "Saturday Sports Show", but there was no sport on it). Radio 1 seemed determined to press ahead with sport, though they did have an extended news bulitten at teatime.

Sky News and BBC News 24 only seemed to notice later on in the afternoon - when trouble broke out around lunchtime only RTÉ was covering and there seemed to be a delay getting any video of the trouble until later in the afternoon. Even RTÉ's lunchtime summary only had a voice report accompanied by a still.

If ever there was an occasion Sky News Ireland could have opted out this was it, though they did have Ray Kennedy on hand to report for Sky News itself.
