The old and new theme seems to have been lost a bit in the RTÉ One idents more recently. There were some clever ones at the start, like the Nelson's Piller / Spire one or the steam train / Luas one that we never seem to really see anymore. Nor is the ident specifically designed as a pre-news ident (the newspaper becoming the gallary) really shown any more.

Yes that's one of the best ones I think, very dramatic 'important' music and strong visuals at work (even if your man does look faintly ridiculous holding that piece of paper up as he does standing in the middle of the gallery Smile)

Shot in Collins Barracks by the looks of things.

Also that director is incredibly pompous if you watch him, especially when the whole ident is played to the end - what a poser Smile

This was played at length before the Nine when first launched - it would make a welcome return around now.

It has been relegated to the wee small hours and is used now solely to introduce EuroNews.

Aha! That's where the full length is often played out - couldn't think where I'd seen it before!

They show the Nelson's Piller/Spire one a lot before The Bill at 5.30pm

I think RTE really messed with the current ident set when it strayed from the "Ireland Old And New" theme. It just didn't make sense anymore afterwards.

BTW, I really like the one where the old turboprop plane turns into a modern airliner

Also, this one was good as well, until they edited out the bicycle part

"Whatever will they come up with next?!"

Multi-cultural dancers? After all, it wouldn't be the first time they are "inspired" by a BBC ident package... Wink

I hope not, while it worked on BBC One, it won't on RTE One. I don't think they drew the inspiration of "Ireland Old And New" from BBC. They might stop doing that now, given the (supposedly) positive response to this ident set.

No i haven't seen it but i'll keep an eye out. The 6.01 was funny yesterday...just after the titles there was a loud bang in the studio while Brian was talking and a few seconds later he stopped and said "sorry, my chair just jumped" Very Happy . Ni Bheolain was trying not to laugh! And they finished the 6.01 with a wide shot of the studio from the opposite side to normal...most unusual.

now that was funny!

I didnt see the ending though. Sharon really made it obvious she tried not to laugh!

Just wondered, is Aengus MacGrianna the only RTE newsreader who signs off in Irish and English at the end of the news. What is it he says in Irish?
