Some technical problems with the sound on Six-One last night, two reports failed, going out mute for around 10 seconds before Bryan Dobson came in with an apology.

btw, Am I the only person who likes Paddy McKenna from news2day? Smile

OT on news, when did Shirley Temple-Bar stop dragging himself up for Telly Bingo? And where did the old "Telly Bingo, twice a week..." theme go?

The "twice-a-week" (previously "Tuesday nights") theme was never, ever, used on the actual show. It was only ever an advertising jingle - started with a campaign "the number's up for boring Tuesday nights"...

Sharon Ni Bheolan's recent mishap on Six-One (link somewhere else on this thread) was shown (in rather grainey quality, probably taken from that file!) on Colin Murphy's The Blizard of Odd last night.

Yes i saw that too! I never actually watch that programme but just happened to see it last night. He made a very funny comment after the clip but its best not to repeat it here...

Almost all of the material used on the show had the RTE 1 or RTE 2 DOG on it. I wonder why they didn't/couldn't use a clean copy?

Probably because the 'targeted' programmes won't supply them to them - would you hand the recordings over?!!
Saying that, they'd surely be all archived by then free for use.....

It seems TBoO record them directly off the air, or make use of Presentation recordings or something.....

Ooooh that's annoying I missed Sharon on TBoO Sad
I can guess as to what he suggested she was choking on Very Happy

It's interesting that issue is raised just now, as she very nearly had another such fit only last night! A look of sheer terror swiped momentarily across her face as she swallowed deeply, and luckily for her the voice came back instantly. It looks like we may well be seeing more of this in the future.

Yes the VT problems on Six One were poor - clearly a problem with same the VT player for both reports, as the others seemed to work fine.
It was very clumsy however how long they allowed the reports to play with no sound - as Col says for about 10 secs. Even the second time round they let the report play for 10 secs hoping the sound would emerge somewhere - RTÉ News always desperately cling on for as long as possible before giving in to dodgy reports. It was most unprofessional second time round as it was instantly apparent it was the same problem again. Bryan handled it well as always Smile

Really though Sharon is getting worse rather than better - she was horribly shouty and earnest last night, so crude and crass.
Her jumping about the shot and swinging forwards and backwards is equally distracting, and she pauses in the most inappropriate of places when reading - probably the worst aspect of her 'style'.
I say get rid...

I could have sworn it was used at the end of TellyBingo c.2001, I think I remember seeing that while Tara (R.I.P.) was still on the air.

Tuesday night's Six One - did Sharon Ní Bheolain come off the set from a Dracula movie?

I've also noticed that recently she's been wearing clothes that look like they've come out of the 16th century! I wonder if she really has been made permanent or is she just filling in for Una for a few months?

She is just temporary. Una is working certain hours because of personal issues. I don't want to post on this forum what they are, but for the moment she only wants to work certain hours, and because of that she can't do six-one. She will be back in that slot in time.

Yaaayyy! That's all we need to hear dublinskyboy, thanks Very Happy

It did seem to be more of a personal decision than a managerial one - no one in their right mind would get rid of Una.

Yea she's very bad at that recently. You'd swear she was trying to sit on a one-legged stool.

I do not believe what I just saw on tonight's Nine - the final closing shot that zooms to a wide featured a 21" floor monitor dominating the lower quarter of the shot that was standing in front of the camera!!
Are these guys for real?!!? This is unbeliveable!

And especially when combined with two completely inexcusable fecked up cues on no less than two reports - leaving Anne floundering with the early cuts back to her. As usual, what a complete and utter farce.

AND, to make matters even worse, the The Week in Politics promo on directly after the News was fully streched from 4:3 to 16:9!
Image, graphics and text! And leaving Séan O'Rourke like he's been on a fast-food binge since we saw him last Sunday. And this coming from Presentation itself, the very heart of the broadcaster!
What a bunch of lazy feckers, can't even be arsed to crop or pan and scan - and they think we're a bunch of idiots for accepting such sh*te.

Encapuslates RTÉ's attitude to presentation to a tee Twisted Evil

Yes I saw all that last night...unfortunately!!! Rolling Eyes

During one of the sports reports, they didn't cut Anne's mic and you could still hear her chatting away. It was hard to make out what she was saying but I'm almost sure she said "...and the pope sez to him...". After she said that they cut her.
