RTE ONE Pres have been having issues over the last number of days. Not quite sure what is going on. During Wednesday daytime, there was no announcer. By 2pm, they reverted to that overnight ident with the pre-recorded 'This is RTE ONE' announcement.

The Six-One situation sounds like an absolute fiasco.

I've never seen such a cock-up Laughing ! That eejit doing the weather takes the biscuit. Why and how did that happen Rolling Eyes ? I'd love to know what he started messing with on his right when he saw himself! Pres really had a nigntmare-ish day yesterday!

heh heh - don't you just love when things go wrong? Very Happy
This type of thing happens abou twice a year during RTÉ News - a bulletin just riddled with problems. Of course it's so much better when there's a problem in the gallery itself as all the VTs and running order get fecked up then Smile

Yes I'd love to know what Gerry was fumbling with too - was he trying to get a summary chart up or something?
Hilarous all round.

It seems there was a power problem to Pres - the only explanation I can think of. Montrose suffers with electricity supply problems from time to time - both internally and externally...
These have the most catastrophic and hence most entertaining consequences Smile

Just saw the one o'clock news today. The headline bed kept playing right through to the end of the opening titles Rolling Eyes and if i'm not mistaken, they forgot to update the ticker from yesterday so when it was time for the business news, the ticker showed quotes of people's reactions to the IRA disarmament instead of whats going on on the stock market Rolling Eyes .

And then, worst of all Shocked , the shockingly bad Shocked weather forecast from the ploughing championships Shocked
The forecast began with nice sound effects from nuala carey's nose Shocked and after she realised that she was on air, she proceeded to give us a weather forecast in front of a tv screen whose reflection was brighter than the graphics themselves. You could see a reflection of the whole tent and the camera but not the graphics! Then she ended with a huge roar from all of her "fans" in the tent who had come to see her.

Just when I thought that RTÉ could no longer surprise me... Rolling Eyes

heh heh heh - oh God Embarassed
Well you've only yourself to blame Phen for the weather - I've been deliberately avoiding these 'novelty' forcasts for the week in fear of what I might see Smile

Just saw the ticker story at the end of the business - how ridiculous is that?! You really would wonder... Rolling Eyes

There's a pressing question to be asked - has Una O'Hagan been ditched from Six One? It seems like it...

Why in television's prime season - September, has she disappeared from Six One, to be replaced by Ní Bheoláin? It wouldn't be so suspicious only for the fact that she's now doing late night radio and television bulletins!

Does that mean she's gone from Six One?! And if it does, did she leave of her own accord or did management want to inject a bit of sexiness into the flagship bulletin?!
There is no reason in the world why Una would be doing the graveyard shift with someone else doing 'her' job, and in a primetime season, unless she had left the bulletin.

I didn't think much of it till someone said it to me that they missed her, and wondered where she went. I too miss her Sad - one of RTÉ's top newscasters - hugely professional, articulate and competent. Perhaps at times a little too mechanical, but overall a great package Smile
I'm surprised her absence hasn't caused any ripples in the media as yet - it's a major shift if it proves to be permanent.

Come back Una!!

Yes I've been wondering about Una myself but hadn't thought that she might have left 6.1. I too think that she's very good and if she has left the six, she should be offered the one or the nine at least. Having said that, i really like sharon. She works very well with dobson. I know that Telefis and some others aren't so fond of her but I can't find fault with her and am glad to see her take on a bigger role (presuming she has moved to six one permanently).

Regarding the weather Rolling Eyes

Still having bog-style forecasts from the middle of nowhere with that tart

And helen leonard was cut off mid-sentence after news on 2. And they're using a horrible new ad-thingy for eircom Mad

RTÉ News and Current Affairs started a new series about Dublin tonight, "Capital D with Anne Cassin" (yes, the presenters name is in the title sequence, hope this doesn't become a new trend). It seems to be basically the same format as Nationwide, but with only Dublin stories. Its to run for six weeks. With RTÉ's new push towards widescreen its strange that this is going out in 4:3.

Dublin gets its own local channel on Tuesday when City Channel launches. Judging from the promo running on the channel (NTL Dublin #123) we perhaps shouldn't expect great things in the presentation front...

It'll be interesting to see what it's like.

Yes Capital D (what a silly name) is just a Dublin-based edition of Nationwide, but with slightly higher production values. The 4:3 was refreshingly evident alright - so nice to have a clean 4:3 image for once!
I'm not surprised it was made in 4:3 given News's output - the programme was probably even shot and edited using the Newsroom's field cameras and edit suites.

Anne Cassin is a good presenter, including on News. She's been round for a good while now, but never seems to 'get anywhere' as it were - just crops up now and again to fill up the rota.

The programme was well shot, though the content was a bit dull. It opening with 'multi-ultural issues' was the biggest cliche going, almost farcical. Any 'intimate' 'storytelling' production about Dublin on RTÉ now has to feature the token multicultural item - just like student media production, it has reached ridiculous proportions.

It'll be interesting to see how the series progresses. Unfortunately this type of brief, hokey production has become the means by which RTÉ 'covers' Dublin City which is a great pity. Aside from Duncan Stewart's good series The Changing Face of Dublin', nothing is ever made about our capital, historically, architecturally, the future etc.
Just the usual nostalgic tripe, or patronising multicultural content.

The sequence with Fiona Looney strolling through the House of Lords talking to a hand-held field camera says it all about RTÉ's dedication to history and Dublin on a much broader level.

While we're waiting for RTÉ News to go widescreen, some news today in the Tribune about TV3's new look, which is being designed by Turquoise Branding. Apparently there will be both a new on-screen look, and more interestingly, off-screen. This may mean a redesign for the TV3 logo. Its due to air in the new year.

Dynamo, which designed said TV3 logo, is designing Channel 6's on-air identity. That presupposes Channel 6 ever get on air, apparently it will now be sometime in 2006. (And before anyone asks, we don't have a Channel 5. Most of us don't even have the UK one).

RTÉ News had a nice touch at the end of the Six One tonight in light of today's sad news. Bryan closed by saying "it's good night from me" and Sharon: "and it's good night from him" Very Happy
